Single on Valentine’s Day? Girl, good for you. After all, who *doesn’t* want a drama-free V-Day. However, we know that society puts a lotta pressure on us girls to paired up on this particular of the year. If you’re feelin’ a lil down about your single status, that’s okay. We hit up our global big sis, relationship/life/revenge expert, and YouTube phenom, Shallon Lester, to share some reasons just why it’s so awesome to be single on Valentine’s Day. Prepare to be uplifted.

Leftover chicken? No, thx. Shallon’s first reason as to why it’s awesome being single on Valentine’s Day revolves around disappointments. “When we’re single, no one is actively letting us down. The most disappointed girls on Valentine’s Day are always the ones in relationships with “super romantic” guys who, as it turns out, aren’t. It’s a bummer to want a relationship and not have one, but it’s agonising to think you have a great one and realize how wrong you are as he shows up in sweats with leftover chicken.”

“That’s not a fun emotional crisis to have on the (alleged) most romantic day of the year. But for us single girls, our story is still being written. Make a list of all your must-haves in a guy and daydream about when Jason Momoa–-er, Mr. Right—will walk into your life.” Ummm, Jason Momoa is newly single, btw.

Another reason why it’s great to be single on Valentine’s Day? The odds are in your favour. “There’s no better time to hit the town with your friends or set up some Tinder dates than on cupid’s holiday! Even dudes in a “situationship” will probably hang out with whoever they’re stringing along so when you see a hottie out and about, you can rest assured there’s not someone waiting in the wings.”

For reason número tres as to why it’s awesome to be single on Valentine’s Day, Shallon is reminding us to think about everything we’re saving. Ngl, her reasons are totes legit. “The holidays are barely in the rearview and your wallet may still be feeling the pinch of parties, presents, and primping.”

“Relish in the frugal freedom of not spending Feb. 13 dashing around to a billion beauty appointments and Victoria’s Secret just to impress a guy—and that’s on top of his gift, the gourmet meal you offered to cook, and the absolute agony of having to tidy up before he comes over. Instead, stash that cash for a rainy day or use it to treat yourself to a V-Day indulgence—no man (or wax) needed!”

Strengthen your connections, sis. “When your friends couple up and fall in love, it’s easy to feel like the odd man out—and not just on Valentine’s Day. So instead of stewing that your BFF ditched you for love, *eye roll*, use 14 Feb as an opportunity to diversify your friend portfolio. Text your un-coupled neighbour, work wife, or friends-of-friends and strengthen those connections by planning a lively (complaint-free) Galentine’s Day celebration like a homemade pasta party, vision board craft sesh, or trivia night.” We knew being single on Valentine’s Day is high-key amazing.

Fall in love, with yourself. “Guys come and go, but the most important relationship we have is with ourselves, so why not take a moment to appreciate that smoke show in the mirror? We all want—and deserve—a guy who will treat us like a queen and share in a million fun moments, but we veer into desperation when we believe we need a guy to experience those moments. We don’t.”

“This Valentine’s Day, pick one thing you think requires a guy—a dance class, dinner at that new sushi bar, a hug after a hard day—then do it with friends, family, or even solo. You’ll see that singleness doesn’t mean you miss out on anything, and that it actually means you’re free to pursue what you like, 24/7. And ironically, that attitude is the path to meeting your soul mate, because everyone wants to be around the girl who’s in love with her own life.”
