Gaming subscriptions are becoming increasingly popular of late and we are so excited to announce that Netflix is planning on launching playable games on their platform next year.
Netflix is planning to join this competitive market alongside the likes of large media conglomerates like Google, Apple and Microsoft. We are so excited!
Although Netflix has not publically confirmed their move to the gaming market, in a statement published by Polygon, they revealed that they were going to explore the gaming arena a bit more:
“Our members value the variety and quality of our content. It’s why we’ve continually expanded our offering — from series to documentaries, film, local language originals and reality TV. Members also enjoy engaging more directly with stories they love — through interactive shows like Bandersnatch and You v. Wild, or games based on Stranger Things, La Casa de Papel and To All the Boys. So we’re excited to do more with interactive entertainment.”
While Netflix has produced video games before with third-party developers – based on their original, Stranger Things and Stranger Things mobile game, they’ve never fully entered the gaming industry before.
Here’s what we know so far:
1. Netflix is actively searching for an expert to facilitate the move into gaming.
2. The model for gaming is going to be ‘Apple-Arcade-Style’ meaning that a myriad of games is going to be offered for a certain payable fee. This is particularly good for users because of the lack of in-app purchases. The subscription price entails all the cost.
3. The gaming service will primarily be working with third-party companies as opposed to working in first-party studios.
Although these are just speculations, we genuinely *hope* that Netflix goes through with the service!
