Selena Gomez is older and wiser than she was in her Disney days, in case that wasn’t already obvious to anyone.

The 29-year-old is currently making the rounds promoting her new Hulu series, Only Murders in the Building, which marks her first real return to scripted TV acting since her days on Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place. For context, Wizards ended its run way back in 2012, so it’s been a minute.

During the TCA Summer 2021 Tour, Sel was asked to weigh in on how the experience of making her new Hulu show compared to her past TV work and she was quick to drop some (mostly joking) shade about her Disney days.

“I signed my life away to Disney at a very young age and I didn’t know what I was doing,” she said, according to ET Online.

Before your face freezes into a real-life version of the screaming in fear emoji, know that Selena went on to clarify the last part of that statement a bit.

“What I’d say is the level of sophistication of the material is the first reason why I wanted to do this,” she said, adding that in her Disney days, “I didn’t know what I was doing. I was just running around on set.”

And, FWIW, if you’re having a bit of a stan-gasm at the prospect of seeing Selena Gomez in a TV show again, some more good news: It sounds like Selena is also loving her return to TV.

“It’s really nice to be back on TV and it’s nice to be cast as my actual age, which never happens,” she said before adding a v self-deprecating, “I don’t know if I’m a good actor. I just do my job.”
