Dubai’s fav pre-owned fashion boutique Retold has announced an amazing partnership with local charity imitative Gulf of Good. With fashion being one of the world’s biggest polluters, Retold has expanded its sustainable and philanthropic efforts in the UAE even further by teaming up with GFG to support this amazing sustainable charity project. We caught up with Sian Rowland, founder and Chief Storyteller at Retold to find out more about this fashion-meets-charity partnership.
“We’ve been discussing collaboration with Gulf for Good for some time” Sian tells us, “and we previously arranged some children clothing donations for Nepal back in the winter. However, with the impact of COVID lockdown, our plans had to be postponed. When we were able to officially launch a partnership in the summer, we jointly agreed on the Enjoro Primary School in Tanzania based on a number of criteria. It’s one of the currently more active ones with Gulf for Good; after calculating the activity and potential funds coming out of it our Charity Director thought this would be a good project. For me, I jumped at this chance to support this charity – a few years ago my sister did a sponsored Kilimanjaro climb to raise funds for a Tanzanian charity, so it was one that tugged a little harder at my heartstrings!”.
You can donate your unwanted clothes and accessories at the Retold boutique where the team will showcase a curated selection of pieces which customers can then shop from! The profits of which will go towards Enjoro Pirmary School in Tanzania and will help renovate classrooms and school facilities which will impact nearly 1000 children (this initiative is approved by the Islamic Affairs & Charitable Activities Department with license no 3175). Because to the pandemic, a lot of the usual fundraising efforts which charities use have been put on hold due to lockdowns, such as organised walks and challenges, but the need of the vulnerable children that GFG supports are becoming more urgent and pressing.
So how do we get involved? Head over to Retold’s stunning 3,000SQFT boutique on Umm Sequim Road with your selection of donations, and a curation of these donations will be on sale in the boutique, with some being available online too. With a lot of us at home for longer (to say to the least) periods of time this year, it’s been the perfect time to have a look at what’s hanging in our closets and what we really wear. Sian tells this has caused a positive shift in regards to sustainable fashion, “while so many people have been ‘stuck at home’ they have had time to review their priorities. Do they really ‘need’ a wardrobe overflowing with unwanted items? So we had found a LOT of new customers seeking us out and discovered that there IS in fact an option for pre-owned here in the UAE. Additionally, with this new, more conscious and empathic mindset, people have sought ways to reduce their impact and make better choices”.
Then the best bit, it’s time to shop! Retold’s sustainable approach to fashion also means that you can grab designer bargains at up to 80% of RRP, find super unique pieces that no-one else will be wearing and also hunt down pieces from sell-out collections which you missed the first time round! Winners all round here!
