Musician Nouri is a rising pop songstress that we’ve been keeping tabs on for a while now. Raised in New Zealand with Kurdish origins, her rise to the music scene was not an easy one, but she’s accomplished it nevertheless with her charted singles: “Where Do We Go From Here” and “Favorite Goodbye.” Back in 2018, her debut song “Where Do We Go From Here” even reached the number one spot in eight countries on Anghami.
Impressive is an understatement!
Now, she’s back and better than ever with her latest release, “Miss All Ur Jokes.” Produced by 5x Grammy-Award winning producer Brian Kennedy (who has worked with the likes of Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Chris Brown and Kelly Clarkson) and written entirely by Nouri herself, this song is full of raw emotions that discuss love and loss. And to add, it’s sung beautifully.
We reached out to the gorgeous artist to find out more. Scroll down to read about what she had to say…
Cosmo ME: Tell us about your new song, Miss All Ur Jokes. Who is it about?
NOURI: This song is very close to my heart. A song I felt just wrote itself at the time because of how I was feeling. I feel like I’m very honest with my lyrics but the identity of those who I write my songs about is the only thing I keep to myself.
C: What was the inspiration behind the song?
N: I rarely let myself feel vulnerable and at the time it was almost out of my control. I poured these feelings into my music and that’s how this song was born.
C: Are you going to create a whole album?
N: 100% that’s the plan. I’m going to release an EP first before I give you the album though! Which is on its way to you very soon.
C: Which other artists are you inspired by right now?
N: Honestly I really love Rihanna, Adele, Billie Ellish, Rosalia, Drake, Post Malone to name a few. They’re all very different but I’m inspired by each of these artists in different ways and I love that they each have their own individual artistry.
C: Has quarantine inspired you to write more music in any way?
N: Yeah it’s definitely given me more time alone which is usually when I write most of my music. In saying that, I miss being in the same room as other creatives too because sometimes that’s where the real magic happens. So it has been a challenge but one i have accepted for the time being and tried to adapt to.
C: What’s the first thing you want to do after quarantine?
N: Tour!!!
C: We love your makeup look on the album cover of your new song, is it inspired by anyone? And were there any stand out products you used to create it?
N: Thank you!! I was looking through Pinterest actually and saw a bunch of different brown smokey eye/bronzed make up looks I was inspired by. For the look, I used the Fenty foundation and contour sticks which are my favourite, Anastasia Beverly Hills eye brow pen, MAC lip liner and the Laura Mercier translucent powder, which I cant live without.
Make-up on ~ point ~
C: We also love your TikTok! How did you get into it? And are there any particular challenges you’ve loved the most so far?
N: Honestly my sister kept sending me funny TikTok videos and made me do a dance challenge with her one time. We posted two – one where we did the challenge right and one that we got wrong, and the second one got such a huge reaction and I loved that. I felt like I could post anything at that point without ever over thinking it. It’s a platform I feel I can be silly on and show off my personality.
Aside from her hilarious TikTok videos, we’ll definitely be adding her latest single to our personal “that hit right in the feels” playlist.
