The people have *spoken* and the winner of E! People’s Choice Awards first-ever Middle East category “Middle Eastern Social Media Star of 2021” is Syrian comedian and digital creator Amr Maskoun.
Amr was born in Aleppo in Syria and rose to prominence with his comedy sketch videos that went viral online. Among the many character roles he enacts, he’s widely acclaimed for his character “Umm Suzan” in the Middle East.
From being a Syrian refugee in Turkey and France to capturing millions of hearts on the internet, he’s come a long way after all these years. Amr is carving a name for himself with his “Middle Eastern Social Media Star of 2021” accomplishment and it’s only just the start.
“Throughout my life, all external factors, especially during my period of asylum, made me feel that I didn’t have much worth and that I was inferior to others,” the 23-year-old social media star said. “I think that this award is proof that with passion and dedication, there is nothing that can stop you from dreaming.”
Alongside Amr, the category nominations also included Kuwaiti style icon and fashion influencer Ascia, Saudi Arabian fashion and style influencer Fozaza, Lebanese influencer and business entrepreneur Karen Wazen, Emirati creator Khalid Al Ameri, Egyptian Instagram influencer Logina Salah, Iraqi YouTuber Noor Stars, and Bahraini filmmaker Omar Farooq.
To celebrate all the nominees of the “Middle Eastern Social Media Star of 2021” category, an exclusive special featuring each of their lives throughout this year will be aired on 8 December at OSN Streaming.
