If you haven’t heard, Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid have broken up once (again). But this time there is a * lot* of drama surrounding it this time.

The parents of 13-month-old Khai, have allegedly called it quits after reports of an altercation between Zayn and Yolanda and Gigi Hadid. Honestly, the whole situation is a mess, but we’re here to explain it.

First, let’s go through the timeline of Zigi (for context of course).

November 2015

The two started speculating dating rumours back in November 2015, when the two were seen leaving together after Justin Bieber’s AMA after-party. We didn’t find this out until September 2016, but the two actually met at a Victoria’s Secret party where he asked Gigi out on a date. But when asked if they were dating, the two denied being a couple. But by the end of November, the couple made it official.

January 2016

By January 2016, we got a good amount of Zigi photos posted on Instagram. But Gigi starring in Zayn’s Pillowtalk music video was the confirmation we all needed.

We also got a super cute Twitter interaction between them.

May 2016

In May, we get to see the couple attend the MET Gala together, looking absolutely amazing in Tommy Hilfiger and Versace.

June 2016

E! News reports that the two have broken up after seven months together, highlighting that the two have been on and off quite frequently. But the rumours are pushed aside when Gigi is seen wearing Zayn’s necklace, and posting his and hers Nutella jars.

July 2017

The two continued pretty steadily over the months, and in July they posed for their second Vogue cover.

September 2017

Yolanda Hadid posts an Instagram of the couple hugging, captioning the post; Summer Loving #family.

November 2017

The two celebrate their second anniversary with an Instagram story from Gigi of the two kissing, captioned “my favourite human.”

March 2018

The breakup rumour mill sparks again, but this time we get confirmation posts from both Zayn and Gigi about the split.

June 2018

After pictures of Zayn leaving Gigi’s apartment and a post of the two cuddling at an after-party, it seems like the two were on again.

Another E! News report claimed the two had broken up, to take time for themselves.

“They are in different points in their lives right now and decided they needed the time to breathe apart from each other. They are still in touch and both hope that things will work out, but their relationship is always up and down,” the source said.

E! News’ source added that Zayn’s busy in the studio, while Gigi’s taking some time to chill after the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. But two weeks later we see Gigi leave Zayn’s apartment.

August 2019

Gigi starts seeing Tyler Cameron from the Bachelorette, disappointing die-hard Zigi fans.

October 2019

Gigi and Tyler officially break up. “Tyler is single,” a source tells Us Weekly. “He and Gigi Hadid are no longer together.”

January 2020

Zayn and Gigi are spotted hanging out, and everyone thinks they’re dating…again!

February 2020 

We get not one, but two relationship confirmations from Gigi herself! Gigi posts the sweetest Polaroid of herself and Zayn together on Instagram.

After Zayn was seen celebrating Gigi’s birthday with her family, pregnancy rumours leaked. TMZ reported that Gigi was 20 weeks pregnant at the time.

This is where we’re at right now. On October 28th, TMZ reported that Zayn had struck Yolanda Hadid at their Pennsylvania home, however after recent reports the altercation allegedly happened back in September.

Zayn took to Twitter and posted an explanation and ‘adamantly denied’ hitting Yolanda.

In the statement, he calls Gigi his ‘partner’. However, according to TMZ, Zayn was charged with four counts of harassment towards both Gigi and Yolanda Hadid. The Sun reported that the issues between Yolanda and Zayn started when Yolanda accidentally posted an image of Khai’s face online. The couple has kept their child’s face private since her birth.

Documents obtained by TMZ, quote that:

“Zayn pled no contest Wednesday to harassment and was fined, but with conditions. He’s on 90 days probation for each count, totaling 360 days. He also must complete an anger management class and a domestic violence program. He must have no contact with Yolanda or the security guard.”

In the midst of all this news being released, multiple outlets reported that the couple had split. A source telling Us Weekly said that “Zayn and Gigi have silently separated. They’d been having problems for a while and tried to figure them out, but it just wasn’t working.”

Meanwhile, a People source also reported that “They are not together right now. They are both good parents though. They co-parent. Yolanda is of course very protective of Gigi. She wants the best for her daughter and grandchild.”

But neither Gigi nor Zayn have confirmed the split, however, Bella Hadid has unfollowed Zayn on Instagram.

Zayn’s sister has started posting cryptic messages on their Instagrams in support of Zayn as well.
