After a few heated days of speculation that Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik called it quits, complete with some very important internet sleuthing, a source confirmed to Us Weekly that they are in fact over.
“They’re done,” the source said. “They could get back together, but it’s over for now.”
Until now, the reports had been that they were just taking some time apart, and had been since early November. Fans caught onto the whole thing because they’d been so absent from each other’s social media. They didn’t post any holiday pics, and Gigi went to Taylor Swift’s NYE party alone.
Gigi’s last post of Zayn was from late October, so that’d line up with the November break timeline.
According to another source who spoke with Us Weekly, Gigi was the one who “tried hard to make it work,” but Zayn has “a lot of his own issues that she couldn’t help him get through.”
The relationship had reportedly gotten a little toxic since they reunited in May after their March breakup. “She cut herself off from all her friends every time they were together,” the second source told Us. “She focused all her time and energy on him, but it just got to be too much.” That source even called her a “recluse” when they were together, which is very yikes.
We feel the need to mourn this pretty couple and so here are our fave pics of them in their happier #Zigi days:
Here they are hand in hand, looking gorgeous as ever.
Even in black and white, they’ll always be #couplegoals. We miss them already.
Why is this picture so cute? Oh, only becuase they celebrated Eid together!! *sobs uncontrollably in a corner*
Could they BE any cooler? (Read that in Chandler’s voice, yknow from Friends)
And, who could ever forget the time they wore futurisitc/robotic/super-duper-cool matching outfits at the 2016 Met Gala and absolutely slayeeeed.
Maybe their split is for the best, guys. They were almost too pretty together and Cupid might just be trying to give the rest of us mortals a fighting chance in this game called ‘Love’. We’re still going to hold out hope for these two in 2019 though. It’s not over yet. Watch this space.
