Okay, so 2020 definitely hasn’t gone as planned—and I know I’m not the only one feeling a little hopeless right now. The one thing that’s boosting my mood through all this? Makeup. TBH, I think that now more than ever is the perfect time to experiment with new makeup, try out bold colors, and just go all out with your looks. Think about it: You can rock a little makeup around your house and snap pics for your Insta, or you can spend time perfecting the skills you usually don’t have the patience for (’sup, floating eyeliner).

So after months of stalking the feeds of beauty gurus, makeup artists, and celebrities, I’ve rounded up the biggest makeup trends of 2020 worth trying out during, and after, quarantine. Prepare to screenshot these looks on your phone—these 2020 makeup trends are (and will be) everywhere.

Instead of letting your top lash line have all the fun, try out this 2020 makeup trend instead. All you have to do is line your lower lashes with either the same color or a lighter shade than the one that’s on top. It’s a super easy way to add a fun element into your look.

This Animal-Print Eyeshadow Trend

what’s good

It’s time to channel your inner Carole Baskin and rock this 2020 makeup trend. IMO, whether you’re a fan of animal prints or not, you can’t deny that this look is super creative and cool AF. Warning: This one’s kind of intense, so if you’re a makeup newb, you might need to give yourself some extra time to perfect the look.

This Glossy Eyeshadow Trend

Over powder eyeshadows? This 2020 makeup trend—aka glossy lids—looks just as fire as any sultry smokey eye. And it takes, like, half the time. Add a few dots of eye gloss right above your lash line, then use your finger to blend it up toward your crease.

[4]

This Bright Mascara Makeup Trend

It’s time to give your black mascara a break and experiment with this 2020 makeup trend—a colored hue on your lashes. If you don’t think you can pull off a bright-pink mascara like this, layer on a deep-blue or green mascara instead. They’ll look neutral at first glance but def make people do a double take.

[5]

This Neon Makeup Trend

Even as someone who loves doing the most with their makeup, the allover neon trend you’ve been seeing on your feed is getting a tad tiring. Thankfully, things are getting a fresh, minimalist makeover with this 2020 makeup trend. Instead of sweeping a neon shadow over your entire lid, try tapping a neon shade into the corners of your eyes for a quick hint of color.

[6]

This Pink Lip Makeup Trend

Forget a bold red lip. This 2020 makeup trend is all about making a statement with a bright-pink lipstick, like Candice Swanepoel does here. Not sure what shade of pink to try? Opt for a hot pink with blue undertones—it legit looks good on everyone. And if you want your pink to have serious staying power, go for a matte lipstick instead of a creamy one.

This Floating Eyeliner Makeup Trend

Your eyeliner doesn’t have to stick to your lash line anymore. Grab a liner and color outside the lines by re-creating this 2020 makeup trend: A floating liner look, seen here on Shay Mitchell. You’ll give off major cool-girl vibes with barely any effort, which is always the goal, right?

[8]

This Watercolor Makeup Trend

This watercolor eye on Hunter Schafer is probably the prettiest 2020 makeup trend you’re going to see. It’s soft, playful, and so, so dreamy. And you also don’t have to stick to just one color either. Choose one color for your inner corner, another for the center of your lid, and a last color for the outer third of your lid. You’ll end up with a cool multicolor look like this.

[9]

This Structured Brow Makeup Trend

Remember the bushy, unkempt brows of years past? Welp, that’s over. Instead of “I woke up like this” brows, the 2020 makeup trend for brows is structured, strong, and polished. Get the look and keep all your hairs in place using a clear brow gel.

[10]

This Pastel Eyeliner Makeup Trend

Neon eyeliner was all the rage in 2019, but in 2020, you’re going to see pastel eyeliner—like this light-pink color—starting to take over your Insta feed. The 2020 makeup trend is a quick and easy way to add a subtle touch of color to your eyes without going overboard.

[11]

This Bedazzled Eye Makeup Trend

FYI: The Euphoria makeup effect isn’t going anywhere in 2020. So if you haven’t already, it’s time to hop on the bandwagon and try out some of the show’s makeup trends. An easy place to start? Gold studs on your lid. If you’re a little hesitant to have a thread of gold studs on your eye, start small and add just one or two gold studs near the corners of your eyes.

[12]

This Subtle Lip Stain Makeup Trend

You don’t always have to go super bold with your lip colour. Proof: this barely-there lip stain—it’s going to be a big 2020 makeup trend. Lip stains give you a wash of soft, dreamy color and are super low maintenance too (no smears, no touch-ups).

[13]

This Mismatched Eyeshadow Makeup Trend

If you’re into taking risks with your makeup, this 2020 makeup trend is for you. Instead of sticking to just one eyeshadow color, try a different shade on each eye. You can go bold and wear two shades that are opposite each other on the color wheel (like the blue-and-orange look here) or be a little bit more subtle by choosing two similar hues (think: baby blue and lilac).

[14]

This Red Smokey Eye Makeup Trend

If you’ve been doing the same black smokey eye since high school, it’s definitely time to switch things up. Rather than going with a dark color, like a forest green or navy blue, road-test this 2020 makeup trend: a ruby-red smokey eye in 2020. Doesn’t it look unreal?

[15]

This Pink Blush Makeup Trend

Pls put your peach blush aside. This 2020 makeup trend is all about wearing bright pink to get glowing. And don’t wear your pink blush just on the apples of your cheeks. Sweep it on your cheeks, temples, and underneath your brow bones to give yourself a pretty allover flush.
