As we anticipate the back-to-back upcoming holidays; UAE National Day, Christmas and New Year’s celebrations, the UAE government is putting some safety guidelines in place to ensure public safety whilst celebrating.

Preventing the spread of Coronavirus is still paramount even as we prepare for the celebrations ahead, so the National Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Authority (NCEMA) took to Twitter to announce a couple of precautionary measures for all residents and citizens to adhere to.

Can I still watch firework displays?

No. NCEMA states that “gatherings to watch shows such as fireworks are not permitted.”

Can I go to a concert?

Yes, but only if the concert has gotten “approval from authorities and only with the application of all precautionary measures.”

Can I go to a workplace celebration?

Unfortunatley, the end of year celebrations will be virtual this year as the rule states that “workplace celebrations are cancelled and restricted to the hanging of decorations, flags and banners.”

Can I go to a private gathering?

No. The new guidelines also “mention that private parties and gatherings are not allowed.”

Is there a curfew?

No, NCEMA “allows free movement all day & night, subject to compliance to precautionary measures including wearing masks & social distancing.”

On the topic of public health, NCEMA also stresses “the need to wear masks, to carry out necessary temperature checks, to adhere to personal hygiene, to train workers at recreational venues on health and safety guidelines, and to apply preventive measures when serving food and drinks.”
