#BookTok is having a major moment, with a whopping 209.3 billion global views. BookTok is the internet’s resident library, harnessing a new era of Gen Z book girlies and re-igniting the passions of veteran bookworms.
Though BookTok really took off with the popularity of contemporary romance fiction (we see you Colleen Hoover), the online hub has since evolved into a global platform for creators to share their fave reads from all genres.
To honor this lit community (pun definitely intended), TikTok MENA and Emirates LitFest have teamed up to bring you the ultimate #BookTok Challenge.
From January 9 to 22, the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature and TikTok are throwing down the gauntlet to bookworms across the MENA region to let their imagination run wild. They want to see you get creative on the platform, using the #BookTok hashtag to show off your reading nook, drop some book reccs, and discuss the latest lit trends. Renowned international literary giants and authors at the festival will also contribute to the #BookTok challenge.
Come January 22 to 25, submissions with the #BookTok tag go up for a vote on a dedicated TikTok page. After a shortlist is decided from the public vote, a team of judges, Sara Hamdan, Cecelia Ahern and Salha Obeaid – will drop the mic and select five winners and five runners-up from the shortlist.
Winners snag an exclusive Montegrappa Hemingway pen and a TikTok Book Awards trophy. Crafted with diamond-cut sterling silver trimmings, these pens aren’t just rare; they’re a statement of luxury and a nod to a rich literary legacy. Only 100 of each type – fountain pen, rollerball, and ballpoint – are available in the world, these pens are a treasure trove for book lovers!
Drumroll, please! The winners will be unveiled on February 4 at the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature closing party, with a killer accompanying performance by Emirati sensation Rashed Alnuaimi.
