The Abu Dhabi health department has only gone ahead and created a game-changing app that’ll help fight the spread of Coronavirus in the UAE. The new app, TraceCovid, will alert relevant authorities when users of the app have been in close contact with another user who has tested positive for the virus.

“Our responsibility today is to stand together and continue working as one team to fight against the spread of COVID-19. We encourage you all to download the application and contribute to maintaining the health and safety of the society and protecting yourselves, your families and all those around you”, said Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Hamed.

How does the app work?

Once you download the app, the Bluetooth feature on your device must be enabled to exchange an encrypted Secure Tracing Identifier (STI). When users who have installed the app come in contact, both phones will exchange STI and store it on their respective devices.

If one of the users of the eventually tests positive for coronavirus, the app will immediately alert other users who may have come in contact and have shared STI with such person. Please note that the STI is not enabled through WiFi or internet data but Bluetooth.
