Yas Vocals needs no introduction. The 20-year-old powerhouse is quite literally *taking* over the world as she is killing it, especially with the release of her latest music video for 2 Faced. It’s also no secret that here at Cosmo ME, we are obsessed with her. We’ve interviewed her, had her speak as part of Cosmo Careers *and* played a fun little game of Cosmo Shuffle & Play because we just. can’t. get. enough!

We’re all about supporting incredibly talented women, so we sat down with Yas once again to talk about all things 2 Faced-related and otherwise.

Cosmo ME: Who were your biggest inspirations growing up?

Yas: My biggest inspirations are Beyoncé and Ariana Grande. Beyoncé is such a huge inspiration of mine because she’s a phenomenal singer, dancer and performer! She owns the stage when she’s performing. Ariana Grande inspires me with her voice. I think she’s one of the best if not the best singer of our generation.

C: 2 Faced received a lot of love as soon as you first released it – why do you think so many people resonated with it?

Y: I think people resonated with it because the story of the song is very real. Most people if not all, can relate to the lyrics of this song and have experienced/been in a situation where people pretended to be their friends yet they had an agenda.

C: What was the inspiration behind this song?

Y: The inspiration behind this song was my real-life experiences, unfortunately. Opening my own studio and putting myself out there as an artist/entrepreneur, I am meeting a lot of new people every day which really opened my eyes… not everyone who enters your life is a genuine person and wants you to succeed.

C: What does your creative process look like when making music? Where do you begin?

Y: I always start with the story. My songs are all very personal to me and are all about either something I’m going through right now or something I have gone through in the past that has really affected me until now, for example, bullying.

C: Also, what was your vision for the 2 Faced music video?

Y: The vision was to create a video that is fun to watch yet at the same time really illustrates the essence of the story. At that moment when we get hurt by people who we thought were our friends, we feel that we are the only ones who just went through that experience but the reality is that fake people are very common these days, unfortunately.

C: We heard you’re set to release more than five singles this year. That’s a lot of work! How do you motivate yourself to keep going?

Y: Honestly for me, I have never struggled with motivation. I am very disciplined and goal-oriented and every day I try to better myself in order to achieve my goals. Additionally, I absolutely love what I do which makes it so much easier for me to be motivated and focused.

C: On that note, you’re also a choreographer and you choreographed your entire music video by yourself, we have to ask – what do you prefer, the singing or the dancing?

Y: Haha, yes I did! I honestly had so much fun choreographing this video, and [I] had very talented dancers which made my job easier! I honestly can’t choose between singing and dancing, I love both of them so much, however, my dream is to be an internationally recognized pop recording artist, who can also dance.

C: You’re also an entrepreneur so we can imagine how busy you must be! What was the inspiration behind opening up a dance studio in Dubai while you have so many other things going on?

Y: The inspiration behind YAS Music and Dance was the lack of music and dance culture. We really wanted to bring the commercial, Los Angeles kind of style to Dubai. Another reason why I opened the studio was to help young girls and boys who aspire to be in this industry and help guide them and build their confidence in order for them to achieve their goals. Lastly, we wanted to also provide the best possible quality classes at an affordable price as we felt that that was lacking in the market.

Well, we’ve fallen even more in love with Yas! As if that was even possible. Go stream her latest single and bask in the glory of her music video. We’ve watched it on repeat about a gazillion times so ya might as well join us.
