Attention! Selena Gomez is teasing us from a recording studio in Paris, and that can only mean *one* thing: new music is ~en route~! We have to admit that although we’ve been listening to Selena Gomez’s 2020 studio album, Rare (and literally the rest of her magnificent discography) on a constant loop… we can’t help but crave some brand new melodies from the songstress.

Let’s unpack the Selena Gomez music mystery…
It is true that Selena has recently been through her fair share of trials and tribulations, especially in relation to her physical and mental health. The beloved popstar has faced a painful public battle with Lupus and Bipolar disorder, over the course of which she was exposed to harsh scrutiny and criticism about her physical appearance. We can understand how vulnerable the incessant attacks, in addition to her difficult health struggles, have made Selena feel – it’s no wonder why the star has avoided releasing music for so long.

Selena Gomez hasn’t been entirely absent from the public eye, though. She’s been crowned ~queen~ of makeup, owing to the worldwide success of her inclusive and feel-good makeup brand, Rare Beauty, which encourages all kinds of women to celebrate what makes them uniquely beautiful. She’s also been an outspoken mental health advocate, co-founding Wondermind, an inclusive space where people come together to explore, discuss, and navigate their feelings.

Fans began to worry that Selena Gomez would retire from music altogether following the release of her unfiltered Apple TV+ documentary titled My Mind and Me – she indeed expressed her disinterest in stardom and her soul’s longing for something more profound. But we clung onto hope, especially since Selena simultaneously released a mental-health anthem in which she famously sings: “If somebody sees me like this, then they won’t feel alone.”

Fortunately, Selena’s playful Instagram photos a la parisienne confirm that our hope isn’t false at all and that the *bops* we’ve been waiting for are well on their way (perhaps in a new album). It’s unclear whether Selena intends to release music touching on heavier subject matter (like mental health and heartbreak), or if she’ll opt for more energetic dance records. Selena Gomez is, after all, in the city of love (and lights), so she might even put out a bunch of love songs. We’re aching to get some more hints, but it’s too premature to say!
