You read every single Cosmo ME beauty post. You double cleanse your skin at night, wear SPF every day, and know the difference between salicylic and hyaluronic acid. So, in theory, your selfie game should be on fire *but* your photos leave you wondering what TH is going on?
Turns out there’s more to skincare than just using the right products. Healthy skin habits go a looong way in helping you take your skin to the next level. It’s stuff we should be doing on a regular basis *in addition* to our morning and evening routines.
Change your pillowcase
Frequently. And more if you have acne-prone skin. Every night your face is touching your pillowcases for 7-8 hours. Sweat, bacteria, dead skin cells, and oils are rubbing against the material. Not to mention your hair. It gets dirty. The next night, your freshly washed skin is now touching yesterday’s mess…and each night it gets worse and worse.
Your best bet is to change your pillowcase every two to three nights. Bonus points if you use silk pillowcases. Silk reduces friction between your skin and the pillow leaving you with smoother skin and fewer wrinkles and fine lines.
Wash your makeup brushes
Not only will your makeup apply better with clean brushes, but your skin will be *a lot* happier. Makeup brushes are a hotbed for acne-causing bacteria. And who wants to continually spread *that* across their face? Not us! Dead skin cells, oils, and product build-up can also get trapped in your brush and can lead to future breakouts, blackheads, and clogged pores.Â
Ideally, wash your makeup brushes once a week. You’ll save money too! Makeup brushes that don’t get cleaned tend to wear out sooner since the bristles are weakened and break off from all the debris.
Sanitize your phone
Even if you don’t actually talk on your mobile, you still can suffer the skincare side effects from a dirty phone. How many times a day do you touch your phone and then immediately touch your face? Our guess is *a lot* more than you realize!
Between training at the gym, mall trips, public bathrooms, and setting your phone down on a restaurant table, your device encounters millions of acne-causing bacteria. Your best bet is to sanitize your phone as often as possible and quit touching your face!
