Knock on wood because 2022 is shaping up to be a fab year for the ladies. Emily is staying in Paris, Megan is engaged, and just this morning, Huda Beauty announced the relaunch of her newly formulated Liquid Matte Lipsticks.

Ummm…can the rest of 2022 be just as exciting?

Straight from Huda’s lips

We asked the queen herself if she thinks liquid lipsticks are experiencing a resurgence in popularity lately and if she notices that people are being drawn back to them. She exclusively told Cosmo ME, “I don’t think liquid lipsticks ever really went out of style. Instead, the technology and requirements for what people are looking for have evolved since we launched our OG Liquid Matte.”

“With the pandemic, I think so many people have gone through different phases from not wanting to wear makeup at all, to now still wanting to have that pop of colour on their lips, so our new Liquid Mattes are a perfect solution for that as they’re transfer-proof and mask friendly, but are super comfortable and won’t dry out your lips.” Sounds pretty good to us.

Here’s what’s new

Now that Huda Beauty relaunched her Liquid Matte Lipsticks, we just *had* to find out everything that’s new with them. Tbh, the only person that can outdo Huda…is Huda so we *know* it’s gonna be major. Turns out, the formula is now vegan friendly, more comfortable, *and* the shade range has been extended. #yay

The Liquid Matte Lipstick range now comes in a total of sixteen shades. Don’t worry, Huda kept her eight original cult-faves. (Supplied)

The formula

We’re loving the concept behind the new formula since Huda infused her new Lip L.O.V.E. complex. This ultra-thin liquid lipstick contains lip-smoothing lycopene, moisturising olive oil, regenerating vitamin A, nourishing vitamin E, and softening essential fatty acids.

There’s also zero-stickiness and the newly reformulated liquid lipsticks still have that suede-like texture that makes it feel like your lips hydrated, comfortable, and like you’re wearing nothing at all. The formula is flake-, streak-, smudge-, and transfer-proof with eight long-lasting hours of gorgeous and vibrant coverage.

The shades

Huda added eight new colours to her OG shade range and ngl, we kinda need them all. We are loving Slaytina, a showstopping orange-red, Miss America, a universal red, and Drama Mama, a rich burnt brown. Not to mention, we have our HB falsies-adorned eyes on the pale beige Sugar Boo liquid lipstick for the next time we go out brunching (they are transfer-proof after all) and pinky-brown Sweet Talker for a dreamy date night.

Lips and Tricks

The best way to apply

Huda suggests pairing her newly relaunched liquid lipsticks with her Lip Contour 2.0 (Dhs78, hudabeauty.com). Line your lips with your Lip Contour 2.0 of choice and fade the shade towards the centre. Apply a thin layer of your newly purchased liquid lipstick (make sure it matches the Lip Contour 2.0 *or* is a lighter shade) and fill in your lips. Let the colour set for 30 seconds. Once you notice the matte finish, spend the next eight hours eating, taking selfies, and wearing your mask. Your lips will remain perfectly intact. #ThanksHuda

Get a lil’ extra

To take it one step further, Huda recommends prepping your pout by exfoliating beforehand. This will make your lips soft and smooth for expert application. You can also become your own MUA by mixing shades together to get your ultimate customised tone. Lastly, slightly overline your lips by using the Lip Contour 2.0. Draw straight across your cupid’s bow and the centre of your bottom lip. Connect these to the corners following your natural lip shape for a lifted and fuller-looking lip.

True to Huda’s ethos, these liquid lipsticks (in addition to all her other products) are never tested on animals and her packaging is recyclable and eco-friendly. You can purchase them for Dhs100 each here.
