Time to unfollow 2021 and become BFFs with 2022. A new year can only mean one thing, new beauty trends (and tbh, we’re totes up for it). Who better to ask than the experts themselves to find out what’s in store for us, beauty-wise, as we cruise into the next year?
Get ready girl because here are five major beauty trends in 2022 coming your way.
Mario Dedivanovic + Evolution of Sculpting (in a more natural way)

Quicker contouring? Yes, plz.
We first checked in with the influential and iconic makeup artist and beauty entrepreneur, Mario Dedivanovic. He’s an incredibly talented and famous MUA who has taught countless Millenials and Gen-Zers how to enhance their own individual beauty with his artistic take on makeup techniques like contouring and highlighting. He’s also gifted us with his own luxury makeup brand, Makeup By Mario that, btw, is coming to the region this coming year.
As for beauty trends in 2022? Mario tells Cosmo ME, “Last spring, I launched my Soft Sculpt Collection with the hope of right-setting the idea that contouring has to be a time-consuming ordeal. There’s a big difference between camera-ready contouring and real life, and I think the beauty world exhaled knowing there’s an easier way with products created to look natural, effortless, and do the work for you. I’m confident we’ll be seeing more of it and in gorgeous, skin-loving textures and formulas.”
Huda Kattan + Hybrid Beauty

Huda sees us glowing in 2022.
Next, we hit up the queen of makeup and skincare to find out what other beauty trends to expect in 2022. Huda spilled the tea with Cosmo ME on what she foresees coming next year. “Beauty and skincare have become a vehicle for self-care, so I believe that this will pave the way for hybrid beauty. With the surge of ‘skinimalism’, I think we will see a major focus on having radiant skin. People want to show off their real skin and have the liberty to choose when they want bare skin or not and that is so freeing.”

“To achieve a radiant look, I like to focus more on my skincare to make sure that I have a nice and hydrated base for makeup. Then I apply our Glowish MultiDew Skin Tint on the parts of my face that I really want to glow and even out instead of applying it all over the face. It’s super important to prioritize quality over quantity.”
Mona Kattan + Fragrance Layering

Looks like we’re all going to smell ~amazing~ with Mona’s 2022 beauty trend.
Fragrance is an influential part of the beautyscape and we had to ask our favourite nose and Kayali founder, Mona Kattan. Does she see any fragrance beauty trends in 2022? Turns out, she does. Mona shares that she “feels like the concept of layering fragrances has really taken off, especially outside of the region, and I believe that we’ll see more of that in 2022. The beautiful thing is that there is no rule book when it comes to layering, so that encourages people to get creative and concoct their own unique scent. Layering has always been a big part of our culture here in the region, so it’s so cool to see other parts of the world embrace this unique practice as a regular part of their self-care routines.”
“I think that the pandemic has allowed people to experience the game-changing power of fragrances and their ability to transform your mood and atmosphere with just one spritz. So, I expect to see more and more people lean into the art of layering as the trend continues to expand.”
Natasha Zaki + Enhanced Sustainability

2022 will be serving us more eco-conscious beauty.
We chatted with founder of the homegrown regional beauty brand, Glossy Makeup, and makeup artist, Natasha Zaki, to get her (beauty) thoughts on what she sees coming in the new year. “I see that the future of the beauty industry is moving into a more sustainable and eco-friendly space. Expect to see more makeup products coming out that are kind to the environment and carbon negative. Personally, my brand Glossy Makeup has joined this movement and we are coming out with our own Glossy Makeup Biodegradable Magnet Lashes. They’re made with sustainable materials and the packaging is recyclable.”

Glossy Makeup’s new sustainable lashes will be available in Watson’s across the region in January.
“By the way, if you’re a newbie when it comes to applying falsies, use our Magnetic Liner along with our Biodegradable Magnetic Lashes. You won’t need any lash glue. They’re super easy to apply.”
Laure Sejean + Sheer Foundation and Natural Beauty

Let’s enhance our skin, not mask it, in 2022.
Who needs Emily in Paris when you have Laure in Dubai? Our last stop was to ask Dubai-based French makeup artist (who, btw is highly sought-after by royalty, celebs, brides, and everyday women alike) for her input on what’s to come for us beauty lovers. “In terms of beauty trends in 2022, expect more simplicity with makeup and the encouragement to play along with your natural beauty. Sheer foundations will be a big winner in the coming year. My current favourite one is the Sisley Phyto Teint Nude foundation. It creates the perfect luminous finish to the skin and leaves it looking plump and hydrated throughout the day.”
“For eyes, the makeup trend in the coming year will be an elongated look with the help of a clean and thin eyeliner and the addition of a few individual lashes placed in the outer corner of the upper lash line. To create the perfect wing, my favourite eyeliner is the Hindash Heroline. Very precise, ultra-black, super easy to apply, and doesn’t smudge. This one will be in every makeup bag.”
