Over the past two years, TikTok has essentially become the bottomless pit into which we’ve poured all of our free time and attention, and we’re not mad about it. After all, it’s where we discovered every celebrity doppelgänger ever, the ultimate viral leggings and the iconic mustard and watermelon combo. But one thing TikTok is lacking is a function to ‘dislike’ videos so that you can stop them from showing up on your FYP time and time again. Well, it turns out there was a way to dislike TikToks all along.
TikTok wants to know what you like so it can put more of the same in front of you. But sometimes things appear on you FYP that you’re just not interested in, or that you’re actively not keen on seeing more of. The good news is, you can essentially tell the app that. While there isn’t a ‘dislike’ button in the same way that there’s a ‘like’ button, there is a slightly more click-heavy (two in total, to be exact) way of curating the content you see.
All you need to do is long-press the video in question and a box will come up giving you the option to save the video, add it to your favourites, report something offensive, or say that you’re not interested – which is kind of a gentle way of saying ‘dislike’.
This is… life-changing news?! See you in 3 hours.
