If you skin is looking a little dull, congested, dimply, and puffy, chances are dry brushing could be *exactly* what it needs. Dry brushing is pretty much exactly what it sounds like…brushing your skin while it is dry. It’s a simple yet effective step in our morning routine that delivers results all day long. To get the most out of this body tool, use the following techniques, tips, and tricks.

The type of brush you use is *super* important. You can’t dry brush with any brush, you need to use a body brush with natural bristles. You’ve most likely seen these before in the grocery store or while shopping online. Typically, they have a wooden handle and cream coloured, natural fiber bristles.

The best time to brush you skin is in the morning, before showering. Night time isn’t recommended because you will feel instantly energised after brushing. Unless you plan on going to bed and spending a few hours reading up on the latest of Love Island (we don’t blame you), keep it in the AM routine.

How to do it:
Start at your feet and work your way up your body. Brush your skin lightly using long, upward strokes several times in each area. The brush will do the work for you so no need to apply too much pressure. Work the brush in segments, from your toes to your ankles, your ankles to you knees, and so on. Always brush in the direction towards your heart. Avoid brushing over any rashes or irritations on your skin.

After showering, be sure to properly moisturise you skin and apply a broad spectrum SPF. For some serious glow, mix in a touch of shimmering body oil.

The payoff:
Aside from feeling instantly awakened, your skin will look more radiant and glowy thanks to the physical exfoliation. Dry brushing stimulates your blood circulation and encourages the lymphatic system to eliminate toxins. It is also said to enhance skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of cellulite.
