Would you rather have a bad hair day or a bad brow day? Sis, my summer frizz was so extreme, I would have gladly walked around with a 90s skinny brow if it meant I could rock some tamed tresses. The wicked witch/ cavewoman/ sea creature vibe is great for Halloween, but summertime in Dubai? No way! At the same time, I like my products like I like my friends…non-toxic. I’ve heard story after story about damaging chemical hair straightening treatments that contain ingredients like formaldehyde (#eww). Not happening.
My hairstylist, Georgie, from Pastels Salon recommended I try the KeraStraight KS Ultimate treatment. This semi-permanent keratin treatment uses only great ingredients (no nasties), removes the frizz, and doesn’t damage hair. I was worried my hair was too difficult for the treatment but Georgie told me that it’s made for all hair types and can be applied over any previous chemical treatment. She pinkie promised that I would no longer need to battle the frizz for hours with my blow dryer and round brush. My hair would transform into a good hair day, everyday. It would be stronger, straighter, and easier to maintain. She had me at “easy”. I was sold.
The treatment itself consists of application of the keratin-base smoothing solution. It encourages the rebuilding of keratin which translates into the look and feel of smoother and softer hair. I used that time wisely and caught up on the latest with Love Island, Bennifer, and the latest brunch spots. After Georgie was done, I stared in disbelief at my reflection. The frizz was gone. My hair looked and felt strong, sleek, and shiny. Bonus points for the fact that it keeps hair healthy by protecting it against damaging environmental effects like UV rays and pollution, too!
Once you step out of the salon, you’re not 100% in the clear. It’s important that you abide by KeraStraight’s rule of using sulfate-free shampoo and conditioners. Sulfate will weaken the treatment and bring the frizz back sooner. With proper at-home care, you can expect the treatment to last up to four months. KeraStraight sells their own range in Pastels (which I happily purchased and exclusively use). It’s been over a month since my treatment and I am still loving my results. My frizz-free hair looks silky and healthy.
