Anyway, turns out there’s another -bang in town… Gongbang! And if you’re just as confused as we first were, allow me to explain.
We’ve all seen the ‘study with me’ YouTube videos and TikToks, and while the concept of Gongbang isn’t new, it’s deffo become more popular during the time of Zoom University. Gongbang is the concept wherein students study for hours on end on a live broadcast or channel, sort of creating a community for everyone in the same boat and acting as a virtual study group.
The concept has reeaaaally become popular on TikTok with hundreds of students joining Zoom meetings to study together and TikTok-ing the experience. One platform in particular, StudyStream have actually been blowing up for this exact reason. StudyStream set up Zoom meetings aka ‘Focus Rooms’ on their website which can accomodate over 800 people in one meeting.

Students are able to join these focus rooms (but aren’t allowed to unmute themselves) and work in harmony with others. Sort of for motivation but also… people have been convinced they’re going to meet the love of their lives on there too.
Where’s the correlation, you ask? Well… as it turns out, I guess when you have people from all over the world joining one Zoom call, there’s a pretty good chance someone will catch your eye.
People have been spotting *multiple* possible love interests on these calls and claim its even ~harder~ to study with so much eye-candy infront of them. *sigh* First-world problems, amirite?
