The Netflix prequel series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is here, and it answers SO many questions we had about the legendary monarch – and head matchmaker of the Ton – and how she came to be a queen, a wife, a mother, a friend.
We discover the answers to all of our questions and more, seeing first-hand Queen Charlotte’s romance with King George III, as well as its complications, as well as the importance of her lifelong friendship with Lady Danbury, which is forged early on in the series.
The story is split through the eyes of a younger Queen Charlotte (India Amarteifio) and the “present day” Bridgerton-era Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel), introducing Arsema Thomas as a younger Lady Danbury, and the return of Adjoa Andoh.
But with all the zipping back and forth between two time periods, we want to know, how old are the characters meant to be in each chapter? We did some serious research to find out.
Young Queen Charlotte age
We know that Queen Charlotte is 17 years old when she marries King George, which (mild spoiler) happens pretty early on in the series. She was despatched to England to be the next queen partially due to her youth, as it was tradition back then to get ladies married off as quickly as possible, to avoid being a “spinster”.
By comparison, India Amarteifio is 21 years old, so a few years older than her character.

Bridgerton era Queen Charlotte age
Reports say that Queen Charlotte was meant to be 52 in the second season Bridgerton, presented as younger than her real-life counterpart. She would be a similar age in Queen Charlotte, because the “present day” scenes are set during Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate (Simone Ashley)’s honeymoon, so shortly after the events of Bridgerton season two.
Golda Rosheuvel turned 53 this week, so is pretty much exactly the same age as Queen Charlotte in the show.

Young Lady Danbury age
Arsema Thomas (who plays Young Lady Danbury) is 28 years old, according to reports. There’s no confirmation of how old her character is, but we know that she is older than Queen Charlotte as she has already married and had children, and has sexual experience to impart as part of their friendship. We’d say she’s in her mid 20s, at least.

Bridgerton era Lady Danbury age
Lady Danbury is in her late 50s, if our calculations about the age difference between Queen Charlotte and herself are correct.
Adjoa Andoh (who plays the senior Danbury) is 60 years old, so is a fairly similar age to Lady Danbury.

King George age
In real life, King George was 22 when he married Queen Charlotte. It stands to reason that in the Queen Charlotte Netflix show, he is meant to be roughly the same age.
Corey Mylchreest, who plays him, is 25 – so during filming was only a couple years older than the real King was when that moment in history happened.

Violet Bridgerton age
The sweet mother of the Bridgerton brood was 48 years old during the events of Bridgerton season two, so it stands to reason she is roughly the same age during the “present day” Bridgerton scenes. While she maintains friendships with Queen Charlotte and Lady Danbury, she is a few years younger.
Ruth Gemmell, who plays her, is 55 years old.

Young Violet Bridgerton age
Seeing as Violet is roughly four or five years younger than Queen Charlotte, we reckon the young rendition of her character in the Netflix show is a young teenager, roughly thirteen years old.
Connie Jenkins-Greig plays her, and is 19 years old, so was a fair few years older than her character during filming.

Young Brimsley and Reynolds
We predict that the King and Queen’s faithful confidantes and/or butlers are in their mid to late 20s.
Sam Clemmett (who plays Brimsley) and Freddie Dennis (who plays Reynolds) are 29 and 26 respectively.

Princess Augusta
According to the history books, Princess Augusta was 41 when her son King George took the throne. She had nine children in those years and during her marriage to King George’s father, Frederick Louis, Prince of Wales.
Michelle Fairley, who plays the matriarch, is 59 years old.

Adolphus Friedrich IV, Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz
Adolphus – Queen Charlotte’s brother – was born in Copenhagen in 1738, so during the events of King George and Queen Charlotte’s marriage he would’ve been 22.
Tunji Kasim plays Adolphus, and he is roughly 36 years old.
