Welcome back Upper East Siders, Gossip Girl might be back again. This time, with the original cast consisting of Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, and our other *faves* from the iconic series that aired from 2007 to 2012. Known for its impact on pop culture and iconic marketing campaigns, the teen drama revolving around our favourite self-indulgent Upper East Siders is sorely missed.

Reboots are huge, and Gossip Girl had one too. Even though the cast for the return of the well-loved series consisted of young, talented actors, it didn’t exactly do great as it was cancelled after 2 seasons only.
While the love life of Emily Alyn Lind’s Audrey Hope, the brutal Main Character™ moments of Savannah Smith’s Monet de Haan, and the charming nature of Evan Mock’s Aki Menzies’ kept us tuning in every week, people had their reasons for not ~loving ~ the Gossip Girl reboot.
One we saw popping up every time someone watched a new episode was the nostalgic longing for the pure, unadulterated drama of the original series that the new series somehow lacked. Fans of Gossip Girl cited inauthenticity as to why they think the reboot didn’t hold up to the original series. It makes totes sense why it got axed so soon.

Is Gossip Girl returning with the original cast?
That being said, it does look like the show took our feedback to heart. Taking to social media to share an image of the original cast was the official Gossip Girl page with a tease of a caption saying, “Welcome back, Upper East Siders. After a long time away, I see it didn’t take much time for you to dirty up the clean slates I gave you.”
As expected, fans of the show are going crazy trying to figure out what this could mean. Many Gossip Girl enthusiasts are convinced that the show is returning in all its original, ~messy~ glory. “What is happening?” said an Instagram commenter, reiterating our exact same thoughts since we first saw the now-viral post.

“I am so sorry but if Gossip Girl comes back with the original cast I will officially isolate from the world and never come back because I will have achieved perfect happiness,” said another on the Instagram post. We feel you, girl.
