With October being Black History Month, there’s no better time to highlight the African designers and businesses in the Middle East that need a whole lotta love. African Fashion Week is hosting some events around Dubai this month to prep for the fashion week that’ll be taking place in February 2023.

Here’s everything you need to know about African Fashion Week Middle East…

This Dubai-based platform is for African fashion creatives that want to present their works and connect their pieces to new markets. African Fashion Week Middle East offers a platform to budding designers and helps them flourish, both regionally and internationally.

This year they will showcase some of the incredible designers that they’ve onboarded, some details about the official fashion week in February 2023 and you can expect an official announcement on the big reveal of their latest technology.

Ade Bakare

Ade Bakare Couture makes alluring stylish and modern pieces with an African influence. Summer and winter are the two seasons you can find in his collection being made. Want a bit of drama, magnificent fabric, a modern take on African influences, and geometric designs? You can find it in his collection that will be showcased.

Urban Zulu

Founder of Urban Zulu, Papy Kaluw is a self-taught fashion designer. Famous for Afrocentric fashion, they specialize in RTW pieces with a touch of Pan-African. His creations are well known by celebs, musicians, and even those who have a fascination with African prints. Papy has said that he gets his inspiration from his hometown: Congo. You can meet him and watch his creation at the African Fashion Week runway.

Mantsho

Mantsho is the first design house that collaborated with H&M. Palesa Mokubung is the founder of Mantsho wherein she uses creative and unique prints and textiles. Palesa was recognized for her contribution to the field of Art and Culture in South Africa. Mantsho’s designs are a balance between functionality and aesthetics making the women feel comfortable yet sophisticated. The designs are inspired by a generation of Africans that still welcome their culture through prints, textiles, and garments.

Ntombi Couture

Founder of Ntombi Couture, Thando Magumise is driven by her utmost love for Africa and the people in Africa. In her designs, you can see that it has the aesthetic of the beautiful continent and its culture. Classic cuts with clean lines are her signature style.

Kiza Bespoke

Kiza Bespoke is a luxury & bespoke design house by Joe Osawaye, who is also the owner of Kiza restaurant. They offer a high level of refinement and hand finishing to produce non-perishable suits for men and women. Communicating power, audacity, and style through their pieces at African Fashion Week Middle East, we can’t wait to see what this brand has in store.
