A soon to be household name in the fashion industry, Halima Aden is one to watch. From participating in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant in a burkini, to walking in Kanye West’s Yeezy season five show, she has made a name for herself as a hijab-wearing high fashion model.

Her recent cover with Allure is all about inclusivity, with her sporting a Nike Pro hijab. The shoot is truly ground breaking, as she is one of the first models to wear the hijab on the cover of such a major international magazine. She has definitely come a long way! Born in a Kenyan refugee camp, she always wanted to promote diversity and positivity, which is exactly what she’s doing now.

Say hello to #HalimaAden—the first hijab-wearing model to a) sign to IMG, b) walk in a Yeezy Season fashion show, c) compete in Miss Minnesota USA, and d) cover #allure. Get to know the 19-year-old Somalian American model, who’s breaking down every boundary in the fashion industry. “Society puts so much pressure on girls to look a certain way,” she says. “I have much more to offer than my physical appearance, and a hijab protects me against ‘You’re too skinny,’ ‘You’re too thick,’ ‘Look at her hips,’ ‘Look at her thigh gap.’ I don’t have to worry about that.” Tap the link in bio for our full interview. : @solvesundsbostudio : @beatbolliger : @philippetholimet : @thevalgarland : @mariannewman

She is a spokesperson for the modern Muslim women, breaking stereotypes about them by speaking of her choice to wear the head scarf,  “It’s how I interpret my religion, but there are women who are Muslim who choose not to wear the hijab. That’s something people often forget.”

She says her hijab protects her from body shaming as the focus remains on who she is and not her physical appearance.
