A Pittsburgh, USA mum has been hard at work, producing a line of hijabs for dolls called Hello Hijab.
The idea came to Brazilian-born Gisele Barreto Fetterman, who is not Muslim, when her little girl first got glasses, according to Heat Street. Her daughter wanted to see dolls that looked like her, with glasses on, which prompted Gisele to question which other dolls are not represented.
“This only moved forward after a lot of meetings and a lot of listening, and it was overwhelmingly positive,” Gisele said. “The response was, ‘There isn’t a lot of representation, and we’d be honored to have it.’”
The hijabs will be sold via For Good Pittsburgh from April 1, for just Dhs22, and profits will go to charity projects.
“Hello Hijab believes that while we may look different and have different beliefs, our similarities far outweigh our differences. We strive for a world where we all live and love together,” the website reads. “Hello Hijab is made in Pittsburgh, with love. 100% of proceeds support organizations that protect and honor our multicultural communities.”
