Seerat Saini is everywhere, and we mean everywhere. One minute she’s front row at the Victoria’s Secret show, the next she’s dancing with Malala Yousafzai, casually taking up well deserved space. The Punjabi feminist and influencer went from working with tech giants like Google and Facebook to becoming a full-time content creator. Whilst her feed focuses on fashion, haircare, and beauty, Seerat’s real mission has always been about breaking stereotypes of who South Asian women are and inspiring the next generation of brown girls to unapologetically be themselves. Cosmopolitan Middle East sits down with her to talk about what it’s like to be that girl.

Cosmo ME: What is one thing no one knows about you?

Seerat: I’m actually an incredibly sensitive person. My sister calls me Bubbles from The Powerpuff Girls because any little thing can make me cry. Although it could be considered a weakness, I actually think it’s a gift to feel things so deeply.

Cosmo ME: What is your favourite heartbreak song?

Seerat: “Bewafa” by Imran Khan (the girls who get it, get it).

Cosmo ME: Tell us 3 hot-girl advice you would give to Cosmo readers.

via Seerat Saini

Seerat:

  1. You create the reality around you. There is no version of the past, present, or future that isn’t from the POV of a person. A person with bias. So as we all experience our version of reality—or rather consciously interpret our version of reality, we might as well be delusional. When I believe something is going to happen for me, I speak in the present progressive tense as though it’s already happening. It’s inevitable. The universe is conspiring to make it happen for me. Believe that you are the universe’s golden child.
  2. What you believe about yourself is the only opinion that matters. Only you know your intentions and heart. What people say is 99% a reflection of them. Other people’s perception of you is not your responsibility. You know your character, your morals, the values instilled in you. Treat everyone with kindness, warmth, respect, and empathy. As you move through this world, always make sure to behave in a way that is congruent with those values. Then, when anyone wants to make you whoever you need to be in their story, because you will always be the villain in someone’s story, it doesn’t faze you because you know your heart and the way you move through this world.
  3. Listen to how you feel after hanging out with friends. Your gut / intuition will always tell you the truth. I’ve had gut feelings about people for years that I wish I didn’t ignore. And if all time is happening at the same time, perhaps gut feelings are a form of time travel. Something to your “present self” from your “future self”. A warning to give your light and time to a friendship or relationship that’s worth cultivating—where you’re receiving the same love and energy you give.

Cosmo ME: Who would be your dream girls night out crew?

Seerat: Assembling my Ocean 11 dream team is no easy task. There are many baddies that have served throughout history…and choosing presents an incredibly difficult feat. If we’re going with alive today, I’ll invite:

  1. Rekha
  2. Michelle Obama
  3. Amal Clooney
  4. Tefi Pessoa
  5. Quentin Blackwell
  6. Aishwarya Rai
  7. Nicki Minaj
  8. Julia Fox
  9. AOC
  10. Lana Del Rey

Mumbai: The curry sampler at Tanjore Tiffin Room

Cosmo ME: What is one fear you have?

via Seerat Saini

Seerat: Not living up to my potential. I don’t ever want to get complacent and just coast throughout life. I think as you get older, it’s easier to just become comfortable and to accept things the way they are, rather than question them or to tell yourself that life or external circumstances have gotten in the way of achieving your dreams. I have such big dreams and I want to see them all through—this is just the beginning!

Cosmo ME: What would you say to your younger self if you could?

Seerat: We are all part of the same divine light, every person you encounter is you from a different timeline, dimension, frequency, and elevation. If all time is happening at the same time, (on a plane rather than linear), each new person you meet is you meeting you in real time. So lead with the same kindness you would want to be shown…because that literally is you. The universe has your back and he has had your back from the second you were born. Divine timing is too beautiful and complex for us to understand, so all we can do is trust her.
