Tyla’s recent visit to India for her tour created one of the culturally iconic looks of the year. The South African superstar paid an ode to her Indian roots by performing in a custom saree meets mini skirt designed by a self-taught designer, Nancy Tyagi.
The stunning pastel green saree set featured beautiful Indian draping with a thigh-high slit in the front and a completely sequined bralette. Nancy Tyagi’s designs are widely popular as she hand stitches them meticulously to create fresh, contemporary designs that are timeless.
The outfit was a piece that had a modern edge embodied by Tyla so gracefully, and to finish off the look, Nancy added a sparkly bindi to Tyla’s forehead, which showcases how culture doesn’t need translation – it just needs to be embraced.
Nancy spoke on the experience as: “creating this saree-inspired look for Tyla was such a beautiful experience for me. I wanted to bring together the best of Indian heritage and her bold sense of style into one silhouette. It felt like a quiet intersection of cultures, coming alive through couture and intention. Tyla’s warmth made the process even more special; she was truly the sweetest through the entire process.”
Tyla is set to hit the Middle East this weekend for her show in SOLE DXB. After serving an iconic look in a saree, we’re excited for the looks she’s going to serve for her show, which includes her signature Amapiano aesthetic.
We can’t wait to see which designer gets the next cultural spotlight, it’s starting to look like wherever the iconic popstar steps, the next fashion moment follows.
