After months of the AstroWorld tragedy that resulted in several lives lost, many injured fans, and irreversible trauma due to careless security flaws and breaches, rapper Travis Scott spoke out about the incident in an interview with radio host Charlamagne Tha God on the host’s YouTube channel back in December of last year. Travis Scott received tons of backlash after the concert in Houston which led to him getting cancelled by a multitude of now-former fans.
Instead of letting this catastrophe destroy him, the ‘goosebumps’ rapper took to his Instagram to reveal the HEAL initiative to his 44.6 million followers. He began his post by stating “Over the past few months I’ve been taking the time and space to grieve, reflect and do my part to heal my community. Most importantly, I want to use my resources and platform moving forward towards actionable change. This will be a lifelong journey for me and my family.”
So, what is Travis Scott’s HEAL initiative?
According to his Instagram post, HEAL is a “multi-tier initiative dedicated to addressing challenges facing today’s youth, especially those from marginalized and at-risk communities.” The various initiatives will consist of the Waymon Webster HBCU Scholarship Fund, an expansion of CACT.US Youth Design Center, access to free mental health resources, and the first-ever US Conference of Mayors’ tech-driven solutions for event safety.
He ended his post by stating that his goal has always been to give back and create opportunities for the youth and he will continue to do so. He also stated that this is only the beginning and has more ideas in store.
