February 12th – Jamie-Lynn Spears the media does better

Britney’s sister Jamie-Lynn Spears shared a thought-provoking post on her Instagram story, after the release of Framing Britney Spears. “Dear media, try not to repeat the mistakes of your past. Look where that got us. Do better”, she wrote, adding “everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always”.

February 12th – Justin Timberlake gives Britney a public apology

In recent weeks, Justin Timberlake has been under fire from fans for his treatment of Britney Spears during their relationship between 1999 and 2002, which was featured in the New York Times’ documentary Framing Britney Spears. Plus, last week’s Super Bowl game had fans looking back over previous half-time shows, including that halftime show with JT and Janet Jackson. On February 12th Justin publicly acknowledged his mistakes on Instagram:

“I’ve seen the messages, tags, comments and concerns and I want to respond”, he wrote. “I am deeply sorry for the time in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right. I understand that I fell short in these moments and in my many other and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism.” “I specifically want to apologise to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually”, he continued, “because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed. I also feel compelled to respond, in part, because everyone involved deserves better and most importantly, because this is a larger conversation that I whole heartedly want to be part of and grow from”.

February 11th – Jamie Lynn Spears reveals why she didn’t want to follow in Britney’s footsteps

Nylon re-shared a post from Ashley Ray to Instagram which said “I think it’s nice that in the early 2000s if your sister was a pop singer, you got to try it out too”, and the magazine then invited it’s followers to comment their favourite singer siblings from the noughties. “Never tried it”, wrote Jamie Lynn Spears, “there was no competing with the GOAT”.

February 11th – A virtual court hearing is held

The Framing Britney Spears documentary renews interest in the case of Britney’s quest for autonomy, and a virtual court hearing commences. The judge overrules Jamie’s objection to the role of Bessemer Trust being shared and unfortunately there are no changes made to Britney’s conservatorship. Another hearing is scheduled for 17th March.

February 11th – ‘As long as Britney’s with Sam, she’s happy’

E! News reports that a source close to Britney exclusively told them “Sam [Asghari] is very good to Britney and she’s crazy about him”. The source also added “she loves when they get to travel together and take a romantic vacation. Her first choice is always a beach or a pool, but as long as she’s with Sam, she’s happy”.

5th February – Framing Britney Spears is released

This was a big day in the Free Britney movement as the Britney documentary was released. Neither Britney, nor anyone from her family, commented on the show or appeared on camera.
