While we all thought that the 2021 Golden Globes were not going to take place (because of Covid-19), the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) did not disappoint! They kicked off the season by announcing the 2021 Golden Globes nominations.

This year’s eligility period for the Golden Globes was a lot longer than usual, with qualified movies and TV shows spanning from January 1st 2020 through to February 28th 2021. And with mass delays for COVID- related safety reasons, the nominations this year both both joy and controversy (I mean what else would you have expected?)

I’m sure you all are already aware of all the 2021 Golden Globes nominations, but are you ready for all the biggest Golden Globes snubs of 2021? (Make sure you have some popcorn at the ready because this is definitely going to be interesting.)

‘I May Destroy You’ ended up being one of the biggest snubs of the season!

Despite the overwheling critical acclaim, ‘I May Destroy You‘ did not get any nominations, and fans were NOT happy with this!

Zendaya was robbed of her nomination for her performance in ‘Malcolm and Marie’

Even though the movie just came out on Friday, critics still predicted a nomination for  Zendaya, so this was definitely a disappointing turn of events. Unfortunately this isn’t the first time this has happened to the 24 year old superstar. Last year she was snubbed for her performance in Euphoria!

Spike Lee’s ‘Da 5 Bloods’ didn’t make it either!

I think this may have been one of the most shocking Golden Globes snubs of them all! ‘Da 5 Bloods‘ was completely shut out from all the Globes categories, which meant that there were no nominations for director Spike Lee or actors Delroy Lindo and the late Chadwik Boseman! Oh and btw Delroy Lindo is considered as a frontrunner for the Oscars.

Sophia Loren’s grand return was majorly interuppted

So basically, Sophia Loren is literally an Italian icon and it had been more than 10 years since she had starred in movies. But her hiatus ended when she starred in the movie ‘The Life Ahead’. But sadly she did not make the cut for the nomination.

Minari’ was not allowed to qualify for the Best Picture nomination

The movie is set and shot in America. It is about an immigrant family pursuing the American Dream. It primarily features Korean instead of English. And pretty much because of the language, they weren’t able to qualify for best picture. Because the Golden Globes will not allow movies where the primary language isn’t English to qualify for Best Picture (This also happened last year to Parasite)

Never Have I Ever’ also didn’t make the cut

Mindy Kailing’s TV show was not given any recognition, and this isn’t the first time. The show was also snubbed at the 2020 Emmys. Mindy Kailing responded to the Emmys snub saying that “sometimes a show like ours will always seem ethnic or niche to a certain group of people.” (We love a strong Queen)!

And unfortunately, our fave, ‘Birdgerton’ was overlooked!

Netflix reported that 82 million people watched Bridgerton (which is honestly insane)! But I guess not everyone got the memo, because Bridgerton missed out on the nominations.

BUT, the real *tea* is that ‘Emily In Paris’ was nominated for not 1, but 2 awards!

Don’t get me wrong, Emily in Paris’ was a good show, but was it worth the nominations? Even one of the writers of the show said that ‘I May Destroy You’ deserved a Golden Globe nomination over her own show and she was not happy over this major snub (fans on Twitter agree).Â
