Viral TikTok star @tiktokbrownchick (also known as @shubamusic on IG) goes from on-point impersonations to hitting notes that could (frankly) give Ariana Grande a run for her money! As an Indian-American singer and musician, Shuba’s genre is ‘regal pop with a dash of Bollywood,’ but we think she could sing the alphabet and we’d still be obsessed.

How is she even real?!

Cosmo ME spoke to Shuba about her New Years resolutions, songs that she *can’t* sing, and her fave Indian dishes…

Cosmo ME: Who’s the most inspirational woman in your life?

Shuba: “Definitely Rihanna. Since the beginning of her career, she’s always stayed true to herself and her values.”

C: What’s the one thing that is not good for you, but you always do?

S: “I frequently go down the rabbit hole of social media and tend to play the comparison game, even though I know no one ever really wins!”

C: What song is guaranteed to get you on the dance floor?

S: “Literally ANYTHING from 2008. I know that’s oddly specific but that’s when we got Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and Ariana Grande all at once.”

C: If you could collaborate with any artist in the world, who would it be?

S: “Freddie Mercury hands down. Otherwise, it would be a dream come true to collaborate with Eminem or Rihanna. They’ve both had a huge impact on me on a personal and artistic level.”

C: What song could you listen to on repeat for the rest of your life?

S:Somebody to Love by Queen or Con Calma by Daddy Yankee and Snow. They’re both undeniably catchy and exciting. After I listen to those, I just feel so confident.”

C: How would your friends describe you in three words?

S: “Talented. Overthinker. Funny.”

C: What are your New Year’s resolutions for 2021?

S: “They actually aren’t that different from my daily goals! I’m trying to stay healthy (mentally and physically), create things I love, make people feel confident through my art, and keep being there for the people I love.”

C: What song do you wish you could sing, but totally can’t?

S: “This is totally random but I wish I could sing Headlines by Drake the way he sings it. He’s got this cool way of singing the low notes and sliding all the words.”

C: Favourite Indian dish to make at home?

S: “I love homemade malai kofta. My mum puts extra gravy, onion, and tomato and it’s a total dream come true with some garlic naan.”

C: Favourite Indian holiday of the year?

S: “Diwali is awesome! It’s an amazing time to get dress up more than usual and another reason to celebrate with family. Because most of my family is in India, I don’t really get to celebrate it on a huge scale but I love the little traditions my family and I have kept going for it every year. I really want to keep it going throughout my life.”
