It’s been six months since the COVID-19 pandemic started, and the world has gotten used to social distancing, quarantining, and the correct PPE to wear in order to stay safe. It’s not news that we should all be wearing face masks when going out, *especially* to crowded places (click here to check out cute and affordable brands to shop from for face masks.) And so, seeing celebs or influencers, who have large social platforms, not following these rules is low-key (hiiiiigh-key) worrying.
Essentially, they should be encouraging their fans to also wear masks and stay safe, right?
Well, ‘The Next Best American Record‘ singer Lana del Rey stepped out this weekend to meet fans and wore a mask. But, was it really a mask?Â
The American chart-topping artist held an impromptu book signing at a Barnes & Noble for her new poetry book, ‘Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass,’ and posted an IGTV video of her on her IG announcing it. Naturally, many of her fans attended, however later on many people on social media pointed out that her ‘face mask’ was basically just mesh – so it’s not really protecting her or her fans.Â
Many of her followers have commented under the post criticising her and expressing their disappointment. “Lana i’m begging you wear a real mask,” one fan wrote. “Lana sweetie, what is that mask,” another confused fan wrote.Â
Her comments section is filled with angry comments from fans, and she’s even being reprimanded on Twitter.

Lana has not yet commented or apologised for her actions, the celeb has just posted another video of herself with a *proper* face mask on reading a poem.Â
As much as we love fashion, this is a reminder that face masks with holes in them (no matter how cute,) are in fact NOT face masks.
Stay safe ppl!
