From Kem Cetinay to Maura Higgins and Molly-Mae Hague, there are some contestants who truly earn their place in the Love Island ‘Hall of Fame’. The newest addition to that list is this year’s winner, Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, who wowed us all with her perseverance in the search for love and her unapologetic confidence.

And it’s her confidence that has really got people talking, with many fans wondering how the Islander got to such a point of self-love. Thankfully, Ekin-Su isn’t one to gatekeep that knowledge, taking to her Instagram Story during a Q&A with her followers to reveal how she built her body confidence.

“Listen to me,” the 27-year-old told her 2.7 million followers on the social platform. “Look in the mirror and really appreciate every detail about yourself.”

Ekin-Su continued: “There is only one of you in this entire universe. How amazing is that. Never compare yourself to anyone. Also no-one’s perfect! Perfect doesn’t exist, I promise you!”

Reinforcing the notion in another post, she added: “Forget what anyone thinks of you. Be you. Even if you have [a] quirky side. Embrace it.”

“Life is too short. You’re here once and never again. You are unique and beautiful.”

Referencing how social media has impacted society’s collective confidence – through trolling, for example – Ekin-Su said: “Remember, opinions aren’t fact. You’re amazing.”

Her comments echo the sentiment of confident Islanders that have come before her, including Maura who clapped back at body-shaming trolls after her own stint in the villa. “All you have to do is be yourself and live the story that no one else can live – the story of your own unique life. Be proud, be confident and most of all, be happy,” Maura said in an Instagram post back in 2020.

Elsewhere in the Q&A, Ekin-Su opened up about her mental health – something which former contestants have revealed was challenged during and after their appearance on the show.

“I was loving life in the villa. Just growing as a person,” the Turkish soap star turned Love Islander told her followers, referencing what a tough environment it can be. “I’d say you have to be mentally strong.”
