Ahead of the second season of Bridgerton landing on Netflix, we’ve got a whole load of questions that need answering. Where was it filmed? What happened behind-the-scenes? How old are the cast and characters supposed to be?
The hotly anticipated sequel to 2020’s Bridgerton, season two tells the story of Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), the eldest son of the powerful Bridgerton family, who is looking to end his days as a bachelor and find himself a wife.
As his quest begins, he finds an unlikely soft spot for Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley), the older sister of Edwina Sharma (played by Charithra Chandran), and their complicated love story begins.
But how old are Anthony, Edwina and Kate, and the other Bridgerton characters and the actors who play them? Here’s a rundown of what you need to know, with many of the details revealed in Julia Quinn’s 2000 novel The Duke And I, which Bridgerton is based on.
Kate Sharma
Kate is in her late twenties and is often referred to as a “spinster” due to the fact she’s not yet being married. Eek. Simone Ashley, who takes on the role, is currently 26, but she’ll be 27 years old on 30th March, five days after the show’s release.
Edwina Sharma
Edwina’s oldest sister has helped her be the perfect debutante, before launching onto the Regency scene. Although we don’t know her exact age, we can assume she’s similar to Daphne Bridgerton’s age in season one: 21.
In real life, actor Charithra Chandran was born on 17 January 1997, so is 25.
Anthony Bridgerton
At the beginning of Bridgerton, we learn that Daphne’s brother Anthony is 30, nine years older than his sister and a similar age to university friend The Duke. Anthony is played by 33-year-old Jonathan Bailey.
Genevieve
Genevieve appears to have a fairly frequent role in the second season of Bridgerton. Played by Kathryn Drysdale, it’s unclear how old the famed dressmaker Madame Delacroix is meant to be in the show. But irl? She’s 40!
Daphne Bridgerton
In the book, which season one is based on, Daphne is 21 years old. Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne, was born in April 1995 so is 26 in real life.
The Duke of Hastings
We know that Simon Basset aka The Duke went to university with Daphne’s brother Anthony, so is a few years older than her. Reports say he is 29, while actor Regé-Jean Page was born in 1990 so is 32 in real life.
Benedict Bridgerton
In the middle of the Bridgerton brothers, Benedict is a few years younger than his brother Anthony, making him 27. He’s played by Luke Thompson, who was born in 1988, making him 33.
Colin Bridgerton
Next comes the youngest of the Bridgerton brothers, Colin, who is 22 in the series – making him one year older than Daphne. He is played by 24-year-old Luke Newton.
Eloise Bridgerton
Eloise, Daphne’s younger sister, is 17 in the show, making her four years younger than her sister. The actress that plays her, Claudia Jessie, is 32 in real life (she was born in October 1989) making her 14 years older than the character she plays.
Penelope Featherington
Also 17 is Penelope Featherington, aka the other half of our favourite part of Bridgerton, Peneloise. She’s played by Derry Girls actress Nicola Coughlan, who is 35
