*Spoiler alert* After months of anticipation about the Sex and the City reboot, fans are left reeling after Mr. Big’s fate was revealed in the premiere episode of And Just Like That.

On December 9th, Chris Noth returned as Carrie Bradshaw’s husband for the HBO Max series. During the episode, he made several jokes about his favourite exercise instructor, Allegra, and because he had a (big) crush on her, hit his Peloton bike for a 45-minute workout whilst Carrie was at Charlotte’s daughters piano recital.

After his (very sweaty) workout, Mr. Big runs a shower and suddenly falls to the ground in pain. Clutching his arm, it becomes visibly clear he’s having a heart attack. When Carrie returns home from the recital, she finds him on the shower floor, and he dies in her arms. She tells the audience, “and just like that, Mr. Big died.”

We, just like the rest of the world, have spent the days since trying to process the news.

Fans on social media were also quick to react to the shocking death of Noth’s character, specifically calling out the fact that Carrie didn’t call 911 after he clearly suffered a heart attack. Why?!

Even Jonah Hill had something to say:

The second episode gave fans more context into Mr. Big’s health problems, with Miranda telling Steve that the Peloton bike wasn’t to blame for his death. She says, “he got the OK from his cardiologist”, adding “exercise is good for the heart.” Peloton has also since responded to the episode, saying in a statement that the fatal heart attack was more to do with his “extravagant lifestyle” rather than exercise.
