You have an advanced degree in nighttime skincare routines. You’re also highly qualified in the art of the perfect blow-dry *and* consider yourself a master at expertly performing the flickiest of feline flicks. But sis, today it’s time to go back. To the basics. Yes, girl, you’ve been washing your hair wrong your entire life.

Don’t worry, our world is turned upside down when we found out too. We were ~shooketh~ to put it lightly. Lucky for us all, Lars Skjoth, founder and lead scientist of Harklinikken gave us the deets on how to properly get our hair washing situ in check.

Ngl, if you’re dealing with hair fall this is legit the first step to getting your strands sorted. Lars knows what he’s talking about. He has, after all, improved the lives of thousands of women around the world with his life-changing hair-stimulating extracts, products, and expertise.

Okay, you’ve been washing your hair wrong if you think that shampooing is the first step. (Spoiler alert: it’s not). Major oops on our part too. Turns out, Lars wants us to pre-hydrate our locks before we get sudsy. Use the hair strengthening Harklinikken’s Daily Conditioner (Dhs220, harklinikken.ae) for some intense but lightweight hydration. Fyi, the Daily Conditioner works for all hair types, including the thinnest of strands.

Here’s what you need to do- after hopping into the shower and getting your hair wet, Lars says that “women need to condition the lower two-thirds of their hair for maximum moisture absorption.” There’s no set amount of conditioner you need to use. Go by the way your hair feels. When it gets to the point of feeling slippery with conditioner, congrats, you have properly completed the first step.

Don’t wash that conditioner out. Instead, leave it on your locks and proceed to step numero dos.

Now it’s time to get your lather on, bb. Chances are the way you suds up though, is not what Lars recommends.

🚨Essential detail alert: According to Lars, “lather one to two dirham-sized dollops of shampoo in your hands *before* you apply the product to the scalp.” If you fall into the category of shampoo to scalp to lather, sis, you’ve been washing your hair wrong.

Need some product recs? If you get a lil’ heavy-handed on your hairsprays and gels *or* you have super processed hair, use Harklinikken’s Balancing Shampoo (Dhs235, harklinikken.ae). This shampoo is fab for those with itchy, irritated scalps too (#iykyk). For those with oily scalps or loads of dandruff, detoxify it using Harklinikken’s Stablizing Shampoo (Dhs235, harklinikken.ae). Btw, “excessive sebum (aka oil) on the scalp is a common culprit of hair thinning.” Yikes.

Once your fingertips make scalp contact, use ’em to massage your scalp and hair roots with the shampoo. This “stimulates the scalp for enhanced blood flow to the hair follicles. There is no need to wash the full length of your hair thoroughly as the shampoo will trickle down and cleanse the full body of your hair.”

Side note: The Harklinikken Daily Conditioner has cleansing properties as well so your lower strands won’t miss out on any cleansing action.

Girl, give yourself a hair toss because you’ve made it to the last step. You’re no longer washing your hair wrong. (getzonedup.com) The last step is to rinse the shampoo and conditioner out of your hair and then apply conditioner to lower 2/3rds *again*. This is the secret recipe to ultra-soft, nourish, and lustrous hair. Your strands are gonna be gleaming because they’re undergoing a major nourishing and moisturising upgrade.

For the VIP result, leave the Daily Conditioner in your hair for a minimum of three to five minutes before rinsing out.

For hair that waves (soz) on the curly and coily side, pay a lil’ extra attention to step one. Leave that pre-hydrating Daily Conditioner on your hair longer to maximise the moisture benefits.
