Everyone has a story and Kaushal Beauty is no different. We’ve spent countless hours watching Kaushal share her makeup hacks with us and throughout the years we’ve noticed a soulful transformation within her. Today, Kaushal, along with her husband, Vex King, is the author of “The Greatest Self-Help Book“. We caught up with Kaushal before she makes her two appearances at the upcoming Emirates Airlines Festival of Literature to find out more about her life.

Cosmo ME: How would you describe yourself at the start of your YouTube career?
Kaushal Beauty: Back then, I was someone who was quite lost in life, not knowing what my purpose was. My Kaushal Beauty YouTube channel very quickly became my form of therapy. I felt good creating makeup looks and sharing them with anyone who wanted any tips or tricks. There was nothing but the intention of putting out good energy into the world for me.
C: How has your journey in becoming a social media star transformed you into the woman you are today?
K: I’ve been on social media for 10 years now. About five years ago, I found it really hard to be online. There was constant pressure with my Kaushal Beauty YouTube channel and I felt a strong need to please everyone who had access to me. I felt like social media was breaking me. I realised I needed to seek out therapy to work through all the pain I was feeling inside.
C: What are some of the positives and negatives of being in the public eye?
K: The positives will have to be finding a community of like-minded people where you are able to share your love for something and have a common ground. I would say the negative of being in the public eye is the judgments of others.
C: What kind of effect did the negativity have on your mind, body, and soul?
K: I couldn’t think straight, I didn’t feel like waking up in the mornings, and my spirit felt lost. I guess you could say I was running on no energy and you could sense it through the social media screen.

C: Did you feel supported in your community to seek help for your mental health?
K: The 99% of my amazing followers and internet family were so supportive of me and wanted me to take time out to work on myself. It’s only through therapy I found out that isolation and people-pleasing were my ‘things’ or triggers as many would call them. I wouldn’t want to feel isolated and to make sure that feeling didn’t come up, I tried to please everyone around me and make them happy.
Since going to therapy as well as seeking help and the support I needed throughout that time, I’m able to share my learnings with the world. It was through this transformational period of my life that I realized my true purpose in life. Although my career online started through my love for beauty, I knew that world wasn’t the whole of me. I love self-development, spirituality, nature, cooking, traveling… the list goes on. I’m so much more than Kaushal Beauty. I’m multi-faceted and want to share that with the world.

C: Why did you decide to write “The Greatest Self-Help Book”?
K: I went to therapy for a whole year and during this time, my therapist told me to start journaling, but I struggled getting into it. I tried several types of journals- ones that were guided and even non-guided, blank pages, but nothing was working. I either felt like every day was repetitive, I felt stuck on what to write, some days lead me to feel a sense of ungratefulness for writing the same things every day, or other times I felt as though I was doing it wrong.
Vex has been a huge support in my life. He has been journaling for over half of his life and the power of writing down his thoughts has transformed the way he thinks, views life, and his overall well-being. We took his incredible strengths and knowledge of journaling and my weaknesses together to create The Greatest Self-Help Book daily journal. It’s been magical to see it unfold and the benefits so many people have started to see since beginning their journaling journey with us.
C: How long did it take you to write your book? What is your intention for anyone who buys the book? What can they expect out of it?
K: It took us almost a year to get it perfect. My intention for anyone who buys the journal is that I truly hope it helps you see a glimmer of gratitude in your day. A glimmer of your true self. A knowing that you can get your thoughts out onto paper, write and release them from your mind, and ultimately grow each day as a person.
We’ve already had so many lovely messages and reviews from people who have noticed such beautiful changes in themselves since using it. You’ll be able to explore who you are, answer questions you may have never asked yourself, and become closer to yourself. The longest relationship you’ll ever have with someone in your life is the one with yourself, so you have to make it a good one!

C: You’re now Kaushal, The Author, in addition to Kaushal Beauty. Do you plan on publishing more books?
K: I would love to release some more books and tools to help with your well-being, God willing it will all happen at the right time for us.
C: Back to beauty- can you give us tips and advice for how South Asian girls should properly take care of their skin?
K: Skincare is everything and I love a good skincare routine! I have two tips I’d like to share with you. One is to try and get samples of skincare products before buying the full amount. These days we are bombarded with so many posts, videos, TikToks, and Reels that confusion can sink in. But listen to your skin, really do your research (my rule is to watch or read at least 5 reviews), and then get samples/travel sizes before you buy the full-size amount.
The second tip and probably the most important is to have a one in and one out out rule in your skincare routine. That way you will know whether it’s improving your skincare game or maybe even breaking you out. I know sometimes we can all get really excited when we’ve bought new skincare products that we want to put all on our faces. But trust me, this is a game changer.

C: Any more advice you’d like to share?
Sometimes we read things online, see things online, and that feeling of comparison can start to kick in. Always remember that you’re only seeing a small snippet of someone’s life, day, routine, or moment. Many times this has been planned or shot several times before the perfect piece of content is ready to edit and post. This is also the case for the most authentic social media posts you’ll see.
Everyone’s journey is unique and that’s ok. It’s ok to be on a different path but make sure you consciously make that path as beautiful as possible. Sow seeds along that path that grow into beautiful flowers and trees. Nurture your path along the way and keep your path clean of things that don’t need to be there. Enjoy your journey. You’ve got this!
