After spending five weeks in the USA this summer, coming back to Dubai was a jetlag nightmare. Wide awake from 2 am every day, I attempted (and failed) to jump back into my desert groove whilst running on next to no sleep. Luckily, I found out that Resync Wellness Studio offers a jet lag package featuring Whole Body Cryotherapy as well as a lymphatic massage and facial. I was willing to try anything to overcome my upside-down biorhythm so before I knew it, I was nearly naked in sub-zero temperatures.
Tbh, I was completely clueless about what these treatments ~actually~ do to treat my awful jetlag. To get the lowdown on what was about to go down, I chatted with Resync’s founder and CEO, Jenya Melay. Turns out, the “jet lag packages are designed for those who have just got back from travelling or travel often. Jet lag is caused when our normal sleep patterns are disturbed as we change time zones.” “The symptoms of jet lag include being tired, having trouble sleeping and concentrating, as well as memory issues. Resync’s packages are designed to help those suffering from these concerns through cold therapy and lymphatic drainage.” Bring. It. On.View this post on Instagram
Whole Body Cryotherapy
Although I grew up with proper snowy winters, living in Dubai for the last 14 years has left me spoiled, to say the least. These days, I’m known to shiver when it’s a tundra-esque 20°C outside. When I found out that Whole Body Cryotherapy consisted of chillin’ (literally) for three minutes in a -110°C chamber, all I could ask was, why?🥶The answer? Science.

“The extreme cold reduces blood flow which in turn enhances circulation, reduces pain, and decreases inflammation. It boosts the immune system, increases endorphin levels, and reduces stress. It’s also great for the skin, increasing cell rejuvenation and collagen levels.” Fair enough, and I love the cell rejuvenation and increased collagen levels part because ~skincare~, but I had no idea if I could last the full three minutes. Spoiler alert, I did. Adorned with ear muffs, booties, gloves, and socks, not to mention a sports bra and bike shorts, I spent an initial 30 seconds in the warmup room. That’s a terrible description if I’m being honest because if anything, it was more of a cool down. The first chamber was a balmy -55°C to get my body acclimated for what was to come. With the Backstreet Boys playing for motivation, I danced my way into the spacious oxygen-enriched -110°C cryo chamber. I was told to keep moving and shaking throughout the duration of my treatment, so I let loose and embraced the experience wholeheartedly. The chamber is designed to “evenly cool your whole body” throughout the cryotherapy process. I was freezing cold, more awake than I’ve been in quite some time and awakening to the realization that three minutes is a reallllly long time.View this post on Instagram

Upon exit, I felt like Wonder Woman. I had an incredible boost of endorphins and can only compare it to the way I felt after skydiving. I hopped onto a stationary bike to bring some warmth back into my body and took several deep, cleansing breaths. I did it.Lymphatic Massage and Facial
The other two-thirds of the package are a lot less intense. This involved me lying on an incredibly comfortable massage bed. The toughest part? Resisting checking my WhatsApp messages. This jetlag-designed massage was not your typical Swedish massage, but instead was “gentle and used light touch and hand movements.” The purpose of this is because “when you fly, you may find that your body is feeling a bit bloated and swollen. A lymphatic drainage massage helps to fix this by encouraging the movement of lymph fluids around the body. Speeding up your natural detoxification process is great for your immunity and can also help release any stress.” The lymphatic massage was extremely relaxing and I caught myself nodding off from time to time. The facial consisted of repeated light strokes towards my lymph nodes with Valmont skincare products. It was luxurious and put me in a calm meditative state. I was told to “drink lots of water throughout the flight and afterward, as the massage is most effective when you arrive hydrated.” Noted for next time. The Results
That night, I slept for a solid seven hours. Waking up to sunlight coming through my windows left me in utter disbelief. I was able to acclimate back into my normal sleep cycle within a few days. As far as I’m concerned, yes it works. Yes, I’ll do it again. Yes, I recommend it to you. To find out more about Resync, click here or call +971 56 992 8118.
