With both loungewear and all-things-noughties taking over our wardrobes, it was only a matter of time before the well-loved Ugg boot resurrected again to live it’s second life. Lyst’s figures suggest that searches for ‘Ugg’ have been on the rise since September, and we can totally see why. Queen of cool Hailey Bieber has been seen repping the Aussie brand on numerous occasions, as have the Hadid sisters. And let’s be honest, once those girls have been snapped wearing something, it’s a bonafide trend.

The ‘Oh Yeah’ fluffy sides put the brand back on the map, however it is the mini Ugg boot which the cool girls have been donning with everything from athleisure wear to cut off denim shorts. Born in the land of Juicy Couture tracksuits and rimless sunglasses (which are also having their own fashion moment atm), Ugg boots have been seen in the off-duty stylings of pretty much every member of the LA fashion-squad over the Winter months.

Uggs aren’t just reserved for casual throw-on outfits either. Tulle-loving fashion designer Molly Goddard even collabed with them for her Spring Summer 2021 collection, sending a combo of bright fluffy designs and Ugg footwear down the runway. Yes… really.

Although the fluffy lined boots really became big in the 00’s, their origins actually dates all the way back to the 1970’s, where an Australian surfer turned his loved for sheepskin into the now-Ugg boot in California. Fast-forward a decade and the Ugg had swept along the West Coast, and by the millennium we couldn’t wait to hop on the Ugg boot train.

SJP was often snapped wearing her Uggs whilst on the set of Sex and the City (wonder if they’ll make it into the reboot?), Boho babes Sienna Miller and Kate Moss wore them with mini skirts and crochet, and leader of the fashion pack Katie Holmes wore them with skinny jeans and structured coats.

Skip to 2020, and none other than Ms. Jennifer Lopez is rocking the Ugg boot. From JLo pairing her chestnut Bailey Button Boots with her tie-dye tracksuit (how first quarantine of her!) to Kendall Jenner topping off her all-black gym look with mini Ugg boots, it’s fair to say that the Ugg boot is back in the safe hands of A-List celebrities.
