Honestly, I don’t think my timeline has been so flooded since season three of Selling Sunset hit screens, but Emily in Paris is Netflix’s latest smash series that literally everyone is talking about. Here’s everything you’ve probably been asking yourself about social media’s favourite new series.

What is Emily in Paris about?
From Sex and the City creator Darren Star, the show follows 20-something American girl, Emily, a junior marketing executive at an American company that acquires a boutique French firm operating in the world of luxury. Emily moves to Paris for her dream job, and the drama ensues. Per Netflix, “Emily’s new life in Paris is filled with intoxicating adventures and surprising challenges as she juggles winning over her work colleagues, making friends, and navigating new romances.”

Who stars in Emily in Paris?
Lily Collins plays the titular character, Emily, an “ambitious 20-something marketing executive from Chicago.”

Is Emily in Paris good?
The internet is divided over the new Netflix rom-com. Many have commended the chic outfits, glamorous locations, incredibly attractive cast, and, of course, the escapism (which, let’s be honest, everyone needs right now). On the other hand, the show has also been criticised for its French clichés and lack of authenticity.

Lily Collins commented on the critic’s reviews saying, “There’s just been so much darkness for everyone in 2020 – it’s great to make people laugh and help them escape a little bit. It feels as though viewers are really losing themselves in Emily in Paris and just having a good time, so it’s come at the perfect moment, in a lot of ways.”

Lily added, “An American in Paris is by no means a revolutionary plot line – but right now it’s a foreign one that’s just not possible in real life.”
