Straight from Cairo into the sunny hills of Indio, California, Mohammed Ramadan made his debut, and brought an unforgettable show to the California mega-festival. Egypt and California have had many celebrity musician crossovers throughout the years, like when Alicia Keys showed us how she’s living her Arabian dream in Egypt.
Seeing more Egyptian and Arab stars headlining Coachella is exciting, as representation of these artists is growing globally. But how did this globalisation begin? We have trailblazing talent promoters like Menna Dief to thank, who is on a mission to bring Egypt to the world with Live Nation. “The talent promoter has been named by Scene Plus as one of the ‘Top 100 Pioneers for 2023,’ curating and booking over 30 shows in the past year alone.
She toured Egyptian artist Wegz around North America and Europe, selling out 9 out of 12 venues; planned the Travis Scott album drop at the pyramids; organized the first-ever mahraganat performance in Europe.”
The Egyptian megastar took over the Gobi stage with his joint track with @future and @massari, ‘Arabi’. He also performed his hit songs, “Bum Bum, Ya Habibi, Mafia” and others. “The Egyptian megastar, aptly known as ‘number one’, delivers a heartfelt performance of ‘Betehlawy’ dedicated to his homeland,” according to Scene Noise. His performance had a Pharonic aesthetic, and he brought an Egyptian flare with bellydancers.
He gave us a first look behind the scenes at his arrival at Coachella, as he shared his helicopter ascent into the festival. He shared, “Just got to Coachella, ready to shake things up and make it mine,” on Instagram.
