In the event that you’re out and about and see tons of people on their phones looking through photos, it might be because they, too, are trying to figure out just where they were on April 29. I mean, ya never know! It could clue you in about what happened to miss Taylor Swift on that fated day she sings about in her new song “High Infidelity,” which was released as part of the 3 a.m. version of her Midnights album.

Immediately after the song dropped, fans everywhere began guessing which year the singer could be alluding to when she sings, “Do you really want to know where I was on April 29th?” Was it April 29, 2012 aka the night of Dianna Agron’s circus-themed birthday party? Or maybe April 29, 2018, just as the singer was gearing up for her Reputation stadium tour (which, btw, grossed $266.1 million in domestic revenue, making it the highest-grossing tour in United States history 😬)? IDK, MAYBE!

Although these are pretty good picks, many fans have landed on one year in particular: 2016. This was the day Calvin Harris and Rihanna No-Last-Name-Needed released the hit song, “This Is What You Came For.”

At the time, Taylor and Calvin had actually been dating for over a year, but the duo kept mum about the fact that they’d collaborated on the song together (as a matter of a fact, Tay even went so far as to write the track under the pseudonym Nils Sjoberg, which I’m currently still trying to pronounce correctly ). That April 29, the producer did an interview with On Air with Ryan Seacrest and was asked about whether he ever planned on collaborating with Taylor. His response? “You know, we haven’t even spoken about it. I can’t see it happening, though. No. She’s about to take a long break.” In-ter-est-ing!

Fast-forward to May 2016 after the duo ultimately broke up, and TMZ published a story stating the interview may have actually been the couple’s “breaking point” and triggered the split. The reason? Taylor reportedly felt that Calvin “disrespected” her which, I mean, fair. In the wake of the reports and Calvin theorizing that it may have been Taylor’s camp who broke the news about the collab, the producer kind of went off on social media. Here are just some of the tweets he posted in the midst of it all:

Calvin did end up apologizing and even confessed, “It was completely the wrong instinct. I was protecting what I see as my one talent in the world being belittled. It felt like things were piling on top of me and that was when I snapped.”

So back to the question at hand: Where exactly was Taylor on April 29, 2016? Well, just the night before, on April 28, she was photographed out with friends at The Nice Guy in Los Angeles after celebrating Gigi Hadid’s birthday.

Pics of the singer leaving the party in the early hours of April 29th even surfaced, so the math is kind of mathing on this one. And though it’s unclear what Taylor did the rest of that day, we *do* know she was already moving on and dancing with soon-to-be BF Tom Hiddleston by the first Monday in May at the Met Gala that year. 👀
