Since the USA pulled out of Afghanistan after 20 years of occupancy, we’ve seen horrific images, reports, and videos. What’s happening in Afghanistan is still important to disucss, whether it’s trending or not. And as individuals who are living in the privilege of safe countries, it’s time to ask ourselves – what can we do to help?Â
Â
With the feeling of powerlessness and absolute despondency, comes a seed of hope. This guides us as we strive to assist those in need in every way we can. The following reputable organisations offer us ways we can help Afghani refugees as they navigate through the uncertainty of their futures.
Choose Love
Choose Love is a nonprofit organisation working with people fleeing war, persecution, and climate change. According to Choose Love’s website, you can donate to their Afghani fund to “raise money for a network of Afghan-led organisations to get help to where the need is greatest. Choose Love supports projects providing vital aid and services to Afghan people who have fled the country: clothes, shelter, support for children and groups protecting women and children’s rights.”
Women for Women International
Women for Women International is a nonprofit charity that assists female survivors of war and conflict to rebuild their lives. You can donate to their emergency fund to provide assistance to women in Afghanistan. You can also add your name to Women for Women International’s open letter asking the Biden Administration to protect and support women.
