4th of August last week marked a year since the explosion in Lebanon that destroyed swathes of people’s homes and much of Beirut’s port. However, the people of Lebanon are still facing several crises, which restrict their access to basic facilities.

Lebanon is currently facing a blackout which forces hospitals, bakeries and many other facilities to shut or scale back operations.

This blackout news takes place in the backdrop of an ongoing fuel crisis in Lebanon. As the fuel oil that powers Lebanon has virtually almost disappeared from the market, Lebanese people are in difficult conditions without air conditioning in the sweltering summer heat. People have been lining up for hours to fill up gas in their cars and emptying out fridges for their food is getting rotten.

The blackout marks a new crisis faced by Lebanon, a crisis that first erupted in late 2019 which was a result of decades of government mismanagement that dragged people into extreme poverty and displacement.

If we do anything today, let it be to raise awareness and dialogue around the crisis facing Lebanon at the moment. It is important that in times like these that we stand together and collectively fight for a good cause in any capacity we can. (sunnyflowerdelivery.com)
