Today I was asked via Instagram if The Bold Type is anything like working at Cosmo. The short answer is no. The long answer is…also no. The show was created as an homeage to Cosmopolitan and the US’ former Editor, Joanna Coles. But here, in the Middle East, it is nothing if not flawed (she says whilst approaching the end of season two.)
No one – I repeat: NO ONE – wears stilettos to work every day…
Trainers, flats and sandals all the way!
Or owns that amount of lace dresses…
The Lipsy-London-meets-Jane-Norman styling in this show needs a reality check.
OR boats perfect hair and makeup every. single. day (especially after a night on the town)…
If I get home at 3am on a school night, expect to find me in my slobbiest clothes, hair piled high on my head, and sunglasses the size of a small village covering most of my face.
If I spent that much time in the fashion cupboard…
…I would probs get fired. Also, where are the actual fashion team?
I wish I could spend a whole week working on one feature…
We turn around several stories a day and sadly don’t have Jane Sloan levels of time to work on one single piece.
This isn’t exclusive to Cosmo, but no one stays that skinny by hating exercise, regularly frequenting industry happy hours, and subsequently eating pizza on the subway home…
It just doesn’t happen. Soz.
Imagine if white middle class privileged people *actually* had those ‘aha!’ moments IRL about gun control, racial diversity, and sexual orientation, like they do in The Bold Type…
Just imagine. According to TBT, the world’s problems can basically be solved in one, very on-the-nose episode.
