For those that haven’t heard, Turkey has been in the midst of a crisis for the past 7 days. A crisis that affects a large part of the country, with southern and western Turkey left in the most peril.
In the past week, dozens of fires have enveloped the country, leaving villages and resorts along the Mediterranean and Aegean coastlines devastated. The high winds and scorching temperatures have left 8 people dead. The crisis is escalating to the extent that animals are being set ablaze by these fires.
The fires have been attributed to a factor plaguing the majority of the world today: global warming. Global warming is caused by long-term heating, which is particularly common in industrial areas. Thus, large corporations and companies that contribute to pollution and global warming in Turkey are currently under fire.
A lot of relief effort is needed in order to bounce back from this crisis. However, the political climate of Turkey creates a hindrance to this. You can help mobilize the relief effort by donating to the Turkish Wildlife Relief fund – the money goes towards TPF vetted nonprofit organizations like Afet Platormu which distribute food, water and shelter to those in need. Several GoFundMe pages have also been created on Instagram as well, so make sure you donate to those.
