The Dubai Health Authority announced the approval of vaccines for front-line workers after a successful trial in Abu Dhabi back in September, and today, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, and ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, becomes one of the first Emiratis to receive the treatment.
Taking to social media to share the news, the royal writes, “While receiving the COVID-19 vaccine today. We wish everyone safety and great health, and we are proud of our teams who have worked relentlessly to make the vaccine available in the UAE. The future will always be better in the UAE.”
The country hosted a Phase-3 trial that involved 31,000 volunteers in the Emirates, Bahrain and Jordan. A number of UAE ministers, including Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed, chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Office, took the vaccine over the past few weeks.
