Nora was selected as one of only two Emiratis chosen from thousands of applicants to join forces with ten NASA counterparts, graduating for space travel in 2024.

At a mere 28 years of age, this accomplished mechanical engineer graduate has dreamed of space travel since childhood, immersing herself in the wonders of planets and stars during her formative years in school.

Who is the UAE’s first female astronaut, Nora Al Matrooshi?

Born in 1993, Nora Al Matrooshi’s trajectory towards becoming the UAE’s first female astronaut is nothing short of stellar. Graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the prestigious United Arab Emirates University, Nora then further honed her expertise at Vaasa University of Applied Sciences in Finland.

In 2021, Nora’s journey reached new heights as she was handpicked to undergo rigorous training at NASA, alongside an elite group of 11 candidates from across the globe. Partnered with fellow Emirati astronaut Mohammed Al-Mulla, Nora seamlessly integrated into the second cohort of the UAE Astronaut Programme at the MBR Space Centre. Their mission? To delve into the depths of scientific inquiry, preparing them for the historical voyage into space.
