Are you about to embark on the adventure of moving to a new city? Or have you just recently moved? If so, here’s some words of advice from someone going through the same thing.

Moving can be hard – leaving everything you know behind and starting over is no small feat. BUT it can be done, and you might be surprised, it can even be a very enjoyable and enriching experience.

You can use it as an opportunity to grow as a person and discover new things about yourself and the world.

Let’s look at how you can get on in your new city and make the most of it.

As someone who recently moved from Germany to Dubai, which is a huge difference, let me tell you that you can do anything you want. You might be scared, which is totally fine. You might have a few panic attacks (I definitely did), which is really not necessary. But trust me, it’s all worth it in the end!

You can be proud of yourself no matter what. Just remember that a move like this is HUGE and every step you take is an achievement, no matter how small the task you have completed may seem. Honestly, I was proud of myself when I packed my suitcase without crying lol.

Leaving your family, friends and everything you have grown accustomed to is hard. But don’t think about it like that, think that you’ll find even more friends, more places you love, new fave restaurants and places to spend memorable time at.

Very important: Don’t ever think that because you have found new things that make you happy that you will lose your old life. It will automatically merge. Your old life is not going anywhere. Your family will visit you, you will visit your friends and vice versa. Think of it as taking the best of both worlds and just enjoying yourself in your new surroundings.

Go out and meet people, go on solo dates to learn how to cope with being alone more often. I’m not the most extroverted person myself, but if you open up to people you’ll find that everyone is super welcoming. They know you have just moved and everything is new to you. So they will probably ask you to connect so you can ask them anything about the city. Btw, you should never say no to connecting with people in your new city. It will be very helpful – trust me.
